Acer Aspire 1410/1810T netbook goes on sale in the U.S.

Acer Aspire 1410 netbook
One of the more interesting 11.6-inch netbooks that a lot of people have been waiting for, the Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T, has just been posted as for sale on the online store of Cost Central. The netbook’s name has apparently been changed to Acer Aspire 1410 but the specs remain the same. There’s a 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, GMA 4500MHD graphics, 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 pixel widescreen display, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, built-in webcam, 5-in-1 card reader and a 6-cell battery that’s been rated at 6 hours per charge. The list price is $460.33 USD, which makes it sound like a pretty good deal, doesn’t it?

I bought one of these computers in Taiwan as i was living there and thought it would be cheaper than buying it in the UK. I bought it from an official supplier. Within 1 week, it started to freeze if you left it on for over 30 minutes without touching it. Within 3 weeks it broke – I mean, completely broke, it won’t boot up. I returned it to Acer UK who refuse to fix it without charge as the guarantee only covers it in Taiwan/Asia region. Lastly, I was expecting an upgrade to Windows 7 with the computer. On their website, it says it is an eligable model. Now they say as it has home basic, it is not eligible.

Lesson 1 – Acer computers break and are unreliable.

Lesson 2 – They don’t carry an international guarantee.

Lesson 3 – They misrepresent their own products.

Lesson 4 – never buy an Acer product again.
