Acer Aspire One D250 now available for a little over $500 USD

AAO D250
A little over 2 months ago, Acer’s first 10-inch netbook went on sale on Amazon for $350 USD. This, of course, is the Acer Aspire One D150, which we’ve had the chance to review just recently. Over the weekend, its successor just became available in the Philippines, and I believe it’s going to be available in other markets across Asia (if it isn’t already) as well as Amazon and other online stores that sell netbooks very soon.

In the Philippines, I know of at least one local retailer that is already selling these netbooks, and I was informed that the AAO D150 would be phased out already in favor of this new 10-inch model. What makes the Acer Aspire One D250 so great? Well, for starters, it comes with an Intel Atom N280 processor, which has been proven to be generally faster (though only by a little) than the Atom N270 which has been the norm for netbooks for quite some time now. Besides which, you can consider the Aspire One D250 as just an Acer Aspire One D150 with a better processor and sleeker design. Some of the ports have been rearranged to be positioned evenly between the left and right sides, but the overall look and feel is basically the same.

The price Acer is asking for an Aspire One D250 is the same as the price of an Aspire One D150: 23,995 Pesos or about $507 USD. Right now, I’m a little wary if this model is really worth the upgrade/price increase, but I’ll be spending time with it later today to find out. I’ll let you know what happens then.

I would rather be lucky than geeky wise.I bought the new D250 at an Oceanside,Ca
Walmart on May 10 for $298 plus tax.It is a red one and like all D150′s has the
    N270 processor in it.

I was looking at the same one in my wal-Mart in VA. Could you tell me if it comes with a 3 or 6 cell battery?

Just bought a red D250 at WalMart in RI. It comes with a 3-cell battery.

Bought the D250 at Walmart and havie been using it for two weeks. I was leary of the limitations of this small computer, but I have nothing but rave reviews. I invested in this out of desperation. My regular laptop, a Toshiba Satellite M305, died after 7 months of use. Of course this happened while my work laptop was also out of commision and my husband and son were out of town. While both laptops are under warranty, I was desperate to finish a critical project and was stuck at home with pneumonia. At midnight on a Sunday, I dragged myself to the all-night Walmart, and bought the cheapest PC they had. I couldn’t find an optical drive on the shelves, so I wasn’t sure I could load MS Word. I never impulse shop for larger items, but the fever must have altered my personality.

Coming from using a 14.1″ laptop with 4GB of RAM, I figured I’d be lucky to get this to run MS Word at a snail’s pace. What a wonderful surprise to find that I had a 60 day trial of MS Office Professional 2007, readily available for online download. No optical drive needed, which was a lucky break. Within ten minutes I was setup and ready to go.

The screen is amazingly viewable, with easy zoom capabilities. The keyboard is just right, and I think it would work for guys with larger hand. What about performance? I have had 15 Internet sessions open at one time, along with Word, Excel and Powerpoint and the Aspire One can handle it. Obviously, the fewer the resources open the better it performs. For $298, I even got a Webcam optimized for low-light video chatting. Now, if only my friends and I would start using this mode of communication!

The only things I would change: 6 cell instead of 3 cell battery, and 2 GB RAM in lieu of 1 GB. Both of these are fixable, but it would have been nice to have had the option of buying it as a complete package.

I wouldn’t return this laptop for anything, which I sheepishly admit was in the back of my mind when I purchased it. It’s light, performs well and is a super buy. And, thanks to Walmart, I could buy it in the middle of the night.

If you are considering this Netbook and have questions, I’d be glad to try to answer them. BTW, mine is red, and I love it! I think the other color choices were black and blue (very nice), but there may have been one more. The 150 model was available in white at the same price.

This is a great, accurate review. The best feature appears to be the battery's geriatric proclivities! Heck, it goes on forever and will outlast its users…..but the key pad is surely too small and could have used edge-to-edge fuller pad!
I am struggling with learning how to use the “gesture pad” which is not too receptive to my gestures, anyway! Not bad for the cost and i may add another gigabyte of RAM memory from 1 to bring up to 2 to see perchance if the video performance gets a bit better. Altho the real reason I bought this trusted assistant is to use the Wordprocessor/typewriter and to do emails and research on google. Still don't know if firefox and google can co-exist!!!!
