Acer Aspire One Gets the Official Treatment

Wow! That’s all we can say. Acer is really determined to snag away a big piece of the Eee PC market share with its official entry into the Ultra-portable low-cost PC market. Acer has just officially launched a dedicated product site for the Aspire One and boy are we impressed – totally.

If you don’t have an idea what Acer wants to achieved from its Aspire One Mini-notebook, maybe this opening tagline will give you an idea:

The Aspire one is more than just another ultra-mobile notebook:
it’s an all-new communication device designed to deliver continuous access to the internet and a simplified wireless experience no matter where you are.

Now those words certainly mean serious business and a serious competitor to the Eee PC. If Asus is marketing the Eee PC with three E’s – Easy to Share, Easy to Learn, Easy to Play, Acer’s Aspire Ones got several marketing bylines – Feeling, Style Explore, Vision and Power

Feeling – Smaller than an average diary and weighing less than 1 kilo, the Aspire one puts freedom in the palm of your hands.

Style – Your style comes in different colours, each with its own individual character.
So does the Aspire one.

Explore – The Aspire one was designed to get you online in no time at all and thanks to the Linpus™ Linux® Lite operating system, start up and shut down times are reduced to the minimum. With the Aspire one running on Linux environment, the simplicity continues with the intuitive and specifically optimized software interface.

Vision – How big is perfection?
The Aspire one is built for Internet navigation and features an 8.9” LCD screen that fits the 1024*600 web resolution to perfection.

Power – Power comes in many forms. Often the smallest is the most powerful, just like the Intel® Atom™ processor.

So, what do you think? Can the Aspire One beat our Eee PC?

aspire really hard to lay my hands and body on the cutie . but where is the XP version ?

  • SSD

Where are the specs on this site. It is hot looking, but I’d like to know the actual specs and price.

    @toniXe: hopefully non-existant

Pretty sure I am going to pick up the linux version. Looks pretty amazing, here is an early video review: http://asuseeehacks.blogspot.com/2008/06/acer-aspire-one-review-video.html I really wanted to get a 701 or 90X, but they are just overpriced. This thing will have the 1.6ghz atom chip and everything else about it looks nice, and will ahve the 1024×600 screen.

When and where will it be sold and how much?

  • Steve Summers

Yes, it’s going to beat the Eee, if they meet their stated price, and Asus doesn’t lower theirs dramatically. Its only $379 compared to at least $550, and comes with a better keyboard. There’s less flash memory but you can expand it with an SDHC card, or you can get it with a hard drive.

OTOH, the Eee’s track pad is bigger and better, and the multi-touch thing looks VERY nice.

For more specs, just Google it – there are lots of sites with additional info.

I agree with steve that it is going to be much better if they can hit that price. It is supposed to have a Q3 release so maybe september??? The Aspire one is an interesting system that looks like it could give the Eee PC a run for its money, particularly if the price stays as low as promised.

We just got in a pre-production model and wrote an eval today:
