For Acer it pays to have only one variants of the Aspire One netbook as it gives consumers with only one choice of product to get from their brand.  Comparing it with the netbook industry leader Asus with the slew of netbooks that it has released last year.  This could probably be the reason why according to a recent product survey by PriceGrabber.com,  the Acer Aspire One emerged as the top netbook, and second most popular in the top 25 netbooks and laptops, of 2008.

The top 10 Netbooks of 2008 according to the PriceGrabber survey are:

Interestingly, the Eee PC 900HA which is Asus lone entry into the top ten could only muster a 10th place, although the its listed launch date was only in Nov. 08. So that accounts for why it  got only the 10th place.  Interestingly again, the HP Mini 1000 netbook despite launching only in Nov 08 still managed to get into the 2nd spot.

Another major finding of the survey was the fact that 91 percent of those who a netbook also own a laptop and 87 percent own a desktop. This simply means that netbook owners did not replace their main computing machines, be it a laptop or a desktop and sees the netbook as a complement to these machines.
