Acer Windows 8 Tablet Readies for Computex 2012
Acer is getting ready to unveil a Windows 8 tablet at this year’s Computex event in Taipei, which is scheduled to run from June 5th to June 9th
Acer has not given any official teasers regarding the device, but some speculations have been circulating in the rumor mill. For one, the device will possibly have a screen measuring 10.1 inches diagonally, similar to the Iconia Tab A510 tablet, which runs on the Android platform.
Also, the device could have Intel’s Clover Trail platform. Since Windows 8 carries support for ARM, it is also likely that the Acer Windows 8 tablet could have models carrying ARM-based architectures such as Qualcomm Snapdragon and NVIDIA Tegra, as well as Intel-based processors.
Regarding the pricing, Acer would not likely be able to command a low price for the tablet as Microsoft’s Windows 8 licensing fees do not come cheap. However, this should not work as a great disadvantage for Acer as other companies would have to deal with the same pricing issue.
With the new Windows 8 tablet, Acer joins the other large computer companies that are preparing devices carrying the coveted new OS. Among these are Lenovo, Toshiba, Samsung, Asus, and Dell, some of which have already started showcasing prototype models.
