Active Media releases SaberTooth ZX 1.8-inch 128GB SSD

If you have a netbook or UMPC that uses the slightly smaller 1.8″ disk format as opposed to the regular 2.5″ laptop drives, you’re in luck. Active Media has announced its entry into this hard drive market with the SaberTooth ZX 1.8″ PATA/IDE SSD drive.

The drive has a capacity of up to 128GB and has a read/write speed of 80 MB/s and 30 MB/s respectively. That speed is not up to par with heavy hitters like OCZ, Intel and others but you would be hard pressed to find a 1.8″ drive at that capacity.

The price of this upgrade? A whopping US$380. Yep, that stopped me in my tracks too. I guess I have to put off upgrading my HP Mini 1000′s drive until these disks get a bit cheaper.
