Amazon To Introduce A New Kindle In August

Ever since the iPad entered the market, e-book readers started taking a few hits in their market share. This is because Apple’s tablet sensation can duplicate most of their capabilities and beats them out in terms of graphics and functionality. I mean, the iPad has a color touchscreen – compared to the Kindle’s black-and-white e-ink display, it’s a definite winner. The only thing that e-book readers beat the iPad at is their light weight and focused design on e-book reading – your head won’t start hurting reading that low-impact screen, unlike the bright lights of an iPad.

Well, it seems Amazon, the Kindle’s parent company, isn’t going to take it lying down. Early whispers are picking up about a rumored Kindle 2 release in August. Don’t expect a pseudo-iPad though. Unnamed sources are saying that the Kindle will focus on its core strengths; it will become even more lighter and thinner, with the screen becoming more book-like. This is to emphasize the Kindle’s unique position on the market.

A great idea from Amazon and something to look forward to in the last half of the year.
