Asus Google Nexus 7 Tablet officially announced

There was much speculation that Google would announce their own tablet at the Google I/O conference held today. Google have now officially confirmed the existence of the tablet, as well as pricing, release information and specifications.

The Google Nexus tablet 7 has been made by Taiwanese company Asus and will ship with Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean which is the latest version of Android to be announced by Google. It will also be the first Android device to use Google Chrome as the default browser. The Nexus 7 features a 7 inch display and is powered by a quad core processor. Other specifications include 1.2 megapixel front facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and will be available in 8GB and 16GB variants.

The Google branded tablet is available to pre-order already, with the actual release date to be around mid-July. The first countries to get the Nexus 7 tablet are the US, UK, Canada and Australia and has been priced at $199 in the US. You will also get $25 credit to spend in the Google Play Store.
