Asus Launches the Eee PC 1000 and Eee PC 1000h

We didn’t see it coming, and neither did we predict it. None of the advanced photo leakages and what-have-yous foreseen that Asus is actually launching two models of the Asus Eee PC 1000. Notebook Review has several launch photos as well as detailed specs of this new babies from Asus.

So, what’s the difference between the Eee PC 1000 and Eee PC 1000h? Obviously the “h”, which actually stands for “hard drive”. Yes folks, the Eee PC is finally getting a much needed hard drive of its own. And it’s loaded with a whooping 80GB of storage! Of course, we all know what this means when it comes to pricing. Expect the price too be a bit on the expensive side.

So, here are the official specifications of the Eee PC 1000:

  • 10.2-inch screen, 1024×600 resolution
  • Intel Atom processor
  • 2GB RAM (up to)
  • 40GB SSD
  • 802.11n wireless
  • Built-in Bluetooth wireless
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • High-definition audio, stereo speakers
  • 6-cell battery for 4.2 – 7.8 hours of life
  • Weight: 1.33kg (2.93 lbs)

Those specs definitely look promising. The Eee PC 1000h should come with an 80GB hard drive and with pre-installed Windows XP as its OS. The 7.8 battery life definitely rocks, we must admit.

i hope they also have a 901h version coming, and are 80GB HD drives really more expensive than 40GB SSDs?

    ciao!

A 40GB SSD should be more expensive than a 80GB HDD, but I think that a SSD-drive is much better for the EEE PCs as the dont require as much power as HDDs so we’ll get longer battery-life.

Hmm, hopefully the EeePC 1000 has WiMAX too, if so, I am SOLD… I just hope its under $700 >_>…. Bigger screen, bigger keyboard, long battery life, bigger ssd, more processor power, bluetooth, wifi a-to-n, possibly wimax, LINUX, good speakers (apparently — and hopefully), and its still light, compact, and small… Perhaps it’ll be easy to modify and change the resolution on the 10inch… Exactly what i was looking for all these years. Asus has answered my call!!!

I would have liked a bigger resolution on the 1000, if that page is to be believed it is the same as the 900, 1024×600.

  • Adam

1024×600 is enough on a 10.2 screen, if you are using windows everything gets to small otherwise.

Question: pros and cons of the SSD vs Hard drive on the 1000 – why would a user prefer one over the other?
