Asus Releases the SDRW-08D1S-U External DVD-RW Drive for Netbooks
Posted in: Netbook, accessories, tags: asus SDRW-08D1S, dvd-rwIf you’ve been planning to buy an external DVD-RW drive to pair up with your Eee PC netbook, you might want to check out the Asus SDRW-08D1S. Although there maybe cheaper alternative to this drive, it would still be a good choice since it will look good side by side with your Eee PC.
The Asus SDRW-08D1S sports the same designas the body of your usual Eee PC netbook. It supports any disk formats and can burn DVDs up to 8x speed for DVD burning and 24x spee for CD writing. The DVD-RW drive only comes with a USB cable, so you can easily plug it into your Eee PC and start burning files.
No words yet on the pricing and availability of this DVD-RW drive.

Help, I purchased an Asus Acer Aspire One netbook with the solid state 8 gig hard drive. I just purchased the SDRW 08d 1s-u so I could watch movies, have a way to upload programs, and burn backups. The SDRW read the Cyberlink DVD suite disc and the Power to Go included with the disc drive, which I installed, and one movie then it stopped working, the light went on but it was not reading the disc. I used two USB slots.
I was planning on returning the drive and getting a new one, assuming it was defective. I tried to uninstall the cyberlink programs which got totally messed up with 43 separate uninstall windows but no uninstall. I read the requirements for the Cyberlink programs and it looks like the solid state drive is way too small to load these programs.
1. Can I run the SDRW satisfactorily without the Cyberlink?
2. Can I install the Cyberlink in this computer?
3. How can I uninstall the Cyberlink programs included with the SDRW, if you happen to know. I will reinstall if I can get a functioning disc drive
Thanks for any help.
