Asus to Release the Eee PC E1004DN – First with Optical Drive
Posted in: 10-inch, eeepc, tags: eee pc E1004DnWe’re still recovering from the latest netbook which Asus Taiwan has announced, the Eee PC 1002H and yet here comes Asustek again with a new announcement that shocked us all – the Eee PC E1004DN. And what’s so exciting about this new Eee PC? Nothing really, just the fact that it will be the first Eee PC, or netbook for that matter that would come with an optical drive. Yes, you read it right folks, an optical drive.
Can you believe that? Do you really think that it is possible for a tiny Eee PC machine to house an optical drive? Well, believe it or not, it will happen middle of April.
The E1004DN will have an Intel Atom N280 CPU of course, plus a GN40 chipset, and 120GB of HDD. other information are yet to be announced though.
The Eee PC E1004DN will have an estimated retail price of around $531-590.
In a related note, right after the release of the Eee PC E1004DN, Asus will also be releasing a new Eee PC, the 1008HA which has no announced specs yet. But we’re guessing that Asus will certainly put some special features on this one.

Cant’wait for this one, an optical drive was the only thing missing from the 10 inchers, for my needs anyway.
A btw, both Kohjinsha and MCJ have netbooks with optical drives available but the former is on an 8.9″ and ridiculously small (I nearly bought it the day of this article) and the latter outrageously over-priced (and so undermining the primary reason for netbook success, lets face it) – both only available here in Japan of course but, still, they did come first. :)
