It looks like Asustek will not be meeting its project shipment of the Eee Box which is perhaps due to high prices that’s why the company is planning on replacing the CPU of the said nettop with Celeron CPUs. With the plan replacement of the Eee Box’s CPU, Asustek will be available to bring down the price of the Eee Box to aorund $240.
In addition to replacing the Atom processor, Asustek is also upgrading the Eee Box’s HD from 80GB to 120GB. With the new price, Asustek hopes to gain more sales of the said nettop since it will be more affordable to have it even if users would opt to get an accompanying 19-inch LCD to go with the computer box. Current price of the Eee Box with Atom processor, 80GB HD, keyboard, mouse and Eee Stick is around $298. So the new Eee Box seems to be a cheaper option.
But would this be enough to attract consumers to get a lower end Eee Box with the Celeron CPU? Enough to make Asustek achieve its target of 100,000-200,000 unit shipments of the Eee Box this year?
