Asus to Sell its 8-inch E-Book Reader for Less Than $599
Alright folks. For those who have been waiting too long now for Asus’ e-book reader, here’s the latest from Asustek Taiwan. According to Digitimes, Asus is planning to sell this e-book reader for a price below $599. Exactly how much, we still don’t know as of press time. Well, whatever price Asus will decide to sell its e-book reader, it seems that it should be way lower than the current price of the 9-inch Kindle and the cheapest model of the Apple iPad. Or else, stocks of this e-book reader might just gather dust at store shelves.
Anyway, aside from this estimated price point, the said Asus e-reader will sport an 8-inch 64-greyscale TFT LCD screen without backlight. This is of course to make its display less harmful to the eyes especially during long reading hours.
In addition to these news, Asus was also said to be negotiating with mobile telecom carriers to have the e-reader bundled with their data plans. So, obviously, the Asus e-book reader would have 3G connectivity feature.
What Asus lacks now is a content support where e-books to be read on the reader are going to come from.
So, what are you thoughts? Are you still waiting for the Asus e-book reader or have you bought the iPad or any other e-reader already?
