Well, at least during the last quarter of 2008 and particularly during the Christmas season, Asus was able to prove its dominance in the European notebook market.  According to a Gartner study, Asus shipped 1.49 million units of Eee PC in Q4 2008. This accounts for a 190%  increase from last year’s 513,000.  Asus’ closest rival managed to get a 12.4% in the shipment of their Aspire One netbook.

Relatedly, the same Gartner report said that netbook shipments saved the gloomy performance of the notebook market. In fact, 2.5 million of the total 20.1 million PC shipment in Q4 was from netbooks. This accounts for 12.1% increase on a year-on-year basis.  Unfortunately this is not enough to prevent the decline in notebook prices which was registered at 15% decrease .
