With the good performance of the Eee PC in the ultraportable low-cost pc market, it is but understandable that Asustek chairman Jerry Shen expressed his confidence that they can ship 5 million units of Eee PC this year. No wonder, the company was a bit in a rush to release one Eee PC model after another.

The projection was made even amidts the IDC projection of 3 million units which Shen commented on being too conservative.  Shen is also confident that the shortage of supply for the Eee PC will ease out sometime in July for both the Atom and and Celeron M CPU which both power the Eee PCs.

Isn’t the 5 milion units target a bit too high? We think so too, especially now that there are many far better competitors available just waiting for the right time to steal the limelight away from the Eee PC.
