BlackBerry PlayBook 4G Just Spotted

Photos of an alleged 4G Blackberry Playbook have recently been leaked online. This device had been rumored as early as during last year’s CES when RIM revealed that they would be releasing a 4G enabled version of the Blackberry Playbook tablet that can access Sprint’s WiMAX Network. However, they were unable to deliver on this promise.

Later, during Mobile World Congress, they reignited the rumor by saying that the tablet will be HSPA+ and LTE enabled for other international carriers. Again, however, they failed to keep that promise.

Thus, when images of what appear to be actual photos of the rumored device surface, consumers are left wondering whether they are simply another false alarm.

This time, though, more rumors that back up the existence of the 4G Blackberry Playbook are available. Among them is one that claims the LTE version will be available early this month.

There are also FCC documents that show that Blackberry indeed has LTE-enabled tablets that will operate on frequency bands from AT&T, Verizon, and Canadian operators. There was no showing, however, that the WiMAX version will ever be available.

The images of the purported 4G Blackberry Playbook have a mobile network icon onscreen. There is also a SIM card slot available.

This new offering might be just what RIM needs to boost its sales over the mighty iPad.
