Recently I had a chance to play around with a friend’s Eee PC 1000H. Actually, I convinced that friend of mine to buy the Eee PC 1000H since she was looking for a portable notebook that she can use for blogging, emailing and some other minor computing tasks. So when she finally got her Eee PC 1000H, I begged her to let me test it for a couple of minutes. I wish I had my Eee PC 701 so that I could compare it with the Eee PC 1000H. Unfortunately I didn’t have my Eee PC so I had to rely on memory to distinguish its features from the Eee PC 1000H.

Anyway, The first thing I noticed upon touching the Eee PC 1000H is of course it’s glossy chassis. Compared to my “toy-like” Eee PC 4G, the Eee PC’s 1000H feels and looks like a MacBook. It emits the essence of a full-featured notebook which is not present in the Eee PC 4G.

Anyway aside from the look and feel, another noteable difference of the Eee PC 1000H with the Eee PC 701 is of course the weight. The 1000H is definitely heavier, because of the Hard Disk, the Battery and the bigger screen.

The last thing I tested (since I don’t have the luxury of time) was on how fast the Eee PC 1000H would boot up. It’s got Windows XP so I wasn’t expecting it to be that fast. But I wasn’t also expecting it to be sooo slow either. Yeah, Windows XP certainly runs slow on an Atom processor. I’d go for a Linux OS anytime.

Actual booting time clocked in at around 50 seconds.

Final judgement – Based on the three things I mentioned, I would definitely like to upgrade to the Eee PC 1000H anytime. But I would prefer to have the Linux OS rather than XP in it plus an SSD for storage. If mobile blogging, presentation, portability and ease-of-use are your criteria for buying a netbook – the Eee PC 1000H is a good buy.
