Created mainly for educational purposes, the Ectaco Jetbook Color comes with Full speech recognition and fluent Text To Speech (TTS) to render it interactive. Users may give input on the 9.7-inch touch screen via the stylus that comes with the product, although a new one that relies on fingertip touch input is also in the works.

Students find in the device a special eReader software, which has a reading list, an interactive SAT preparation course, as well as resources for teachers and school officials.

There are many rumors regarding the new Nokia tablet in the works. Recently, Mynokiablog has unveiled a new concept tablet called the Lumia Coffee Tab, which is a speculation of what the innovative tablet PC from the Finnish company would look like.

Inspired by the Nokia N9 Lumia 800, this dream tablet runs on a 1.4GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and a choice among 16, 32 or 64 GB of internal memory.

It has a screen of 9.7-inche AMOLED clearback display with display resolution of 1280×800 pixels. It is also equipped with dual cameras. There is a rear-facing one with 8 MP at the top left corner of the back, to give the user convenience when using the slate in a landscape orientation. A 2 MP camera may be found at the front.

The Lumia Coffee Tab has Windows 8 tablet edition for its operating system. It is also capable of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity.

The concept tablet appears well-designed and could give some competition to popular Android tablets such as the Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab and the HTC Flyer.

Yet, even with accompanying product pictures of a glossy blue device with Nokia Purity in-earphones, it is still only a concept tab dreamed up by a user.

A new Apple iPad 3 knockoff is now available from Shanzai, a company in China, before the original device has even been released.

Shanzai as well as other manufacturers from China are known for this kind of practice, what with tablets and phones claiming to be next generation versions of current popular models being sold left and right in the country.

The Shanzai iPad 3 features a 9.7-inch IPS touch screen display with a pixel resolution of 1024 x 768. This screen is capable of playing videos with 1080p as well as Flash 11. It is equipped with a 1GHz A9 Cortex central processing unit, and has a RAM of 1 GB DDR3.

The device also has a Mali 400 graphics card, making it suitable for gaming. The operating system of choice is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It also sports a 2 megapixel main camera and ensures connectivity through a built-in wireless adapter as well as 3G capability. There are as well slots for TF cards and USB On the go.

The design is a mixture of elements from the iPad and the iPad 2. Measuring 9.8mm, it is slightly thicker than the original iPad. It weighs about 608 grams.

Its targeted consumers, naturally are those anticipating the release of the iPad 3, which is expected to come in March. The price for the Shanzai iPad 3 is currently unavailable at the moment.

The HP TouchPad tablet has made its comeback on Woot again at a good price . Available for $219.99, plus $5 for shipping, buyers will be getting refurb units. However, the fact that HP had directly offered the 32GB model for $149.99 in the past may not suit the taste of some consumers.

The 32GB TouchPad features WiFi capability, so that users may get the benefit of WiFi Internet. The screen is a 9.7-inch capacitive LCD and the tablet rocks webOS 3.0 and has Bluetooth 2.1. With the TouchPad being discontinued, I don’t know how many folks will be interested. You can run Android on the tablet if you are the hacking sort.

Though it’s a refurb unit, the tablet comes with a 90-day warranty from HP. So, if the machine malfunctions within the first three months, users can still have the device fixed at no extra cost.

Finally, the refurbished HP TouchPad may be offered at a higher price, but users may find this a great deal if they want the TouchPad.

They are currently selling Kurio, an Android tablet that is both kid-friendly as well as fully-functional for adult users. The result is a slate that is jam-packed with features, some hopefully appealing to children, and others, for their guardians.

One feature is its brightly-colored protective case that is geared to handle the heavy wear and tear brought about by everyday usage from children. Adults, however, may opt to remove the case.

It also comes in three sizes: a 7-inch model with 800 x 480 resolution, an 8-inch model with an 800 x 600 resolution, and a 9-inch model with a 940 x 600 resolution.

For its OS, it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and has a customized user interface. The device has Google’s approval mark, thus, the user has access to popular Google services, including the Android Market. Users may also create up to 8 profiles, which may also serve as filters for web content and apps.

There is 4 GB of internal storage capacity, which can be expanded via the SD card slot. Peripherals may also be added by means of a USB slot and a larger display is feasible through the HDMI port.

With this device, Kurio seems to be eager to tap into a new and relatively untapped market.

The original price is $799. This price reduction follows the discontinuance of the production of the HP Slate 500.

Several changes have been made with the new HP Slate 2. For example, the older version had a slower processor, Intel Atom Z540. Its design was likewise less sleek than the current model. In almost all other aspects however, the two are similar.

According to rumors, a manufacturer is preparing for 1.5 million orders of iPad 3 tablet computers in the last quarter of 2012. Digitimes is further adding to the story by stating that Sharp and LG have started sending Apple double density display panels which measure 9.7 inches in the late 2011.

Sharp and LG have been allegedly selected by Apple to manufacture the 9.7-inch QXGA, although some reports point out that Samsung, and not Sharp, is tasked with the production. Sharp, meanwhile, is going to manufacture the next generation Apple televisions.

In any case, according to the data, 1 million units of displays were allegedly shipped in the fourth quarter of 2011, and an additional 7 million units are to be delivered in the early months of 2012. In contrast, 10 million shipments of the original 1024 x 768 displays were delivered in the last quarter of 2011, and 7 to 8 million are scheduled to be delivered in the first quarter of 2012. These displays, judging by the resolutions, are for iPad 2 units.

This presumably points out that the next generation of iPad tablet computers are already in the works.

Polaroid, which gained a following for its instant cameras, has recently plunged into the world of manufacturing products such as Android-based smartphones, tablets, and most recently, an eBook reader.

The device is called the Polaroid eReader, and like their other new electronic gadgets, it is also powered by the Android platform. Fully-colored and with a customized GUI, the line of eBook readers comes in several sizes: 4.3 inches, 7 inches, and 9 inches. The color functionality is a fresh addition to the device, as it is something that not all manufacturers of eBook readers have embraced, such as the popular Kindle, for one, which relies on e-Ink.

The smallest one is a resistive touchscreen with a web browser, able to play videos, and has 4GB storage capacity. The 7-inch one, meanwhile, has no touchscreen and commands to flip pages or to navigate are instead given via the buttons located on the side. The two larger devices have at least 2GB of storage capacity. They carry support for the common eBook file types, including ePUB, PDF, and TXT. They are also capable of playing digital music files.

True to its photography background, the devices have dual cameras. The said e-Readers debuted at this year’s CES.

Last year, the CES flooded with tablets from every manufacturer imaginable. This years’ CES may be full of ultrabooks but the slabs are not too shabby either. Coby now has joined the bandwagon and presented a whole new set of tablets. Several of the tablets made their appearance at this year’s CES. The tablets are still prototypes. Budget tablet users will be on Nirvana hearing this.

The MID 9742 — the 9.7-incher, is packed with a respectable screen. The software is very laggy but since it’s still in prototype revision we could easily forgive it. The tablet will cost around $275. All of Coby’s Android 4.0 tablets use the same ARM A8 1GHz processor. It is a headscratcher that the MID9042, the 8-incher, would be priced at just over $200. It just seemed to struggle in simple operations and crashed several times when it was tested by the onlookers. The 7-inch MID7042 is more likely an e-reader, decided to hold on to physical home button. The MID7014 packed a similar 7-inch display has Android Gingerbread, an unusual mini-USB port, micro-SD slot but does not have HDMI-out.

A spokesperson shared hat the lower-specced model would hit the stores at $100. Release dates are not yet known, so prepare.

The famous camera company Polaroid is tapping into the Android tablet market with the three new tablet PCs branded with the name Spectrum that is unveiled at CES 2012. It seems unlikely but this isn’t the first time it tried its luck with tablets. It may be recalled that at last year’s CES, they gave a preview of Polaroid Tablet TC 970.

In this year’s CES, they showed pre-release units of the Spectrum line of tablet PCs. Said tablets were running Android 2.2 and 2.3 Gingerbread and were thus, considerably slower than many of those available at the event. Polaroid, however, revealed that before 2012 ends, they will have released tablets running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The new Polaroid tablets will come in three sizes: 7, 8, and 9 inches, which it will carry into the product name: Spectrum 7, Spectrum 8, and Spectrum 9. The Spectrum 7 will have a pixel display resolution of 1024 x 600 whereas the Spectrum 9 will have 1024 x 768p.These panels will all be capacitive 10-finger input touchscreens.

These tablet PCs will carry a Cortex A18 1GHz processor with 1GB of RAM. They will also have dual cameras, with 2MP at the front and a 5MP at the rear. The Spectrum tablets will have between 4 and 16GB of external storage. They will be available in various colors, of blue, yellow, pink, white, and green.
