With the recent update from Apple for Mac OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard, it prevented netbooks from running the Operating System. Users with hackintosh netbooks were advised to not update in order to continue running Snow Leopard. Thankfully a patch has now been released allowing hackintosh users to update their machines. The patch has been posted over at the InsanelyMac forums and has been tested over the past week and confirmed working. MacObserver also note, that when an update is released from Apple, it’s wise not to upgrade immediately but, rather wait for a patch to come out.

Rumors that Apple is about to cripple the latest build of the Mac OS X rendering it useless for netbooks started last month. And a couple of days ago, Apple release the latest update for Snow Leopard. Guess what? It has been confirmed that the said version of Snow Leopard will no longer run on Atom-powered netbooks.

So if you currently have a Hackintosh netbook as you read this post, better not upgrade to the latest Snow Leopard anymore and enjoy your netbook while it last. Or perhaps you might want to wait for the latest build. Who knows, Apple might forget about disabling this feature.

You’re best to having a Hackintosh netbook then is to get those 12-inch laptops that don’t run on Intel Atom anymore. Or bettery yet, why don’t you get a MacBook instead?

So finally Apple realized that Hackintoshes or those netbooks running with Apple’s Mac OS X, are actually illegal and should be put to a halt. So in its next Leopard update, the MAC OS X will no longer run on machines loaded with Intel Atom processors.

So, if you’re running a Hackintosh netbook you might want to avoid upgrading to the latest build of the OS X to avoid rendering your netbook immobile due to this current development.

This puts the question whether Apple is gearing up for the release of the Apple Tablet which will most likely compete with netbooks or Apple doesn’t really like netbooks.

Pystar currently produce computers, the Open Computer and OpenPro, which are built to order and are primarily Mac clones. They’ve faced a legal battle with Apple but are still producing a number of Mac clones as well as other built to order computers with various options and the choice of pretty much any operating system on the machine.

Undeterred by Apple they’ve revealed to a MacRumors reader that they are working on a “mobile Mac” computer in development. It isn’t clear if this is mobile in a laptop sense or a netbook sense as Pystar currently have no laptops in their range but are planning to introduce them. The question posed however, was asking if they were going to be working on a netbook in the future, so the chances seem good. Many consumers and netbook fans are keen for Apple to produce a netbook, so if Pystar do produce a Mac netbook, there’s no doubt it’ll be very popular.

Whether this is another fake Apple netbook or not, we still can’t say. But it sure is one of the best looking renders we’ve ever seen. This photos was leaked in a Russian magazine and is tentatively called the “Apple MacBook Air Mini,” apparently for taking some design cues from the uber-thin MacBook Air. As you can see, it even lacks (or fails to show) its built-in ports on the side. This could very well be the 10-inch Apple netbook many folks out there have been waiting for.

Apple hasn’t yet offered any official confirmation regarding this leak, but the source said we should expect this MBA Mini to come out in spring for about $899 a piece. The specs are as follows:

• 10.4″ WXGA display.
• 1280 x 768 pixel with LED backlighting.
• NVIDIA MCP79
• Intel Atom Z740 1.83GHz with 1MB L2 cache.
• 2GB DDR3-800.
• NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
• 64GB Solid State Drive.
• Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n
• 1 x USB 2.0
• 1 x Mini Display Port
• Battery Li-Ion 5100mA

The battery is fairly high-capacity, and the specs look reasonable. Also, the design is as close to an Apple as it can get, in this writer’s opinion. The only contention is that the Enter key on the keyboard looks funny. But then again, so do the rest of the keys — because it’s a Russian keyboard.

In time, we might see this “Apple netbook” officially come to life, with matching PR from Apple to boot. But until then, this will only be a dream. Yep, tough look for fanboys, alright.

In an earlier report, we told you that Apple has placed orders with Taiwan-based WinTek for touchscreen displays that are to be used in the company’s upcoming netbook. At this point, Apple hasn’t issued official confirmation (and not so much as a statement) regarding the matter, but today a new report on Reuters seems to add more evidence to rumors of an upcoming Apple netbook.

Citing an unnamed source that is supposedly close to WinTek, Reuters says Apple has indeed placed orders for touchscreen panels, and that they are actually 10-inch screens. Apple and WinTek spokespersons, being as they are, haven’t confirmed what we believe all this is headed for. By the third quarter of this year, the mysterious new Apple device with these 10-inch panels are expected to be released. We will have a clear picture of it by then, and hopefully know whether it’s not a piece of junk, as Apple CEO Steve Jobs half-jokingly referred to other netbooks in the past.

Well, it looks like Apple has finally figured out how to make “a $500 computer that’s not a piece of junk.” Why? A new report from the Chinese-language Commercial Times is said to contain info regarding an upcoming Apple netbook. It cites companies WinTek and Quanta, besides Apple, as among those involved in the making of an Apple netbook. If this report is to be believed, then we will be seeing a touchscreen-equipped little notebook from Apple by the second half of this year. There isn’t really a definite release date for the product, but that is when it’s expected to start shipping. No word on any specs or pricing, either, but that should come once Apple finally announces the thing. Unless someone else leaks all the info ahead of them, that is.
