As the launch of the new iPad 3 is coming shortly, so do the rumors increase about its specifications. The new iPad 3 is expected to have LCD screen measuring 9.7 inches with a pixel display resolution of 2048 x 1536. This resolution is higher than the 1024 x 768 of the iPad 2, and therefore offers sharper images.

For some time, it had been speculated that the screen panels would be created by Sharp using their new IGZO (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide) technology. IGZO offers a high resolution of up to 330 dots per inch without the need for LED backlight. Some, however, have already discounted the possibility claiming that the next-generation iPad will sport LGD or LG Display.

In any case, Sharp is manufacturing large quantities of the IGZO displays at the moment and none of these are available commercially. This fuels the possibility that Apple is still interested in using the product for the iPad 3.

IGZO displays are preferable over the traditional screens made of amorphous silicon because IGZO has a higher electron mobility. This enables more light to penetrate the back of the display, reducing the need for LED backlights, and thus, the production cost.

Apple is currently facing patent charges in China from a company that claims to have used the name iPad. Proview Technology asserts that it registered the trademark for the iPad name as early as 2000. Apple, however, alleges that it has purchased the trademark from the company.

Proview, which has a claim for patent infringement and damages, wants Apple to stop selling the tablet with the name “iPad” in China. They also wish to be given an apology.

Initially, it appeared that Apple was at fault since when the trademark was bought, Proview seemed to have held on to the rights in China. However, it has come about that Apple was in fact able to buy the full rights from the UK-based IP Application Development.

Nonetheless, the right to use the name in China was problematic because there was no legal representation from Proview Technology, the parent company which held the right for the name. Only the affiliate company, Proview Taiwan, was party to the sale, but this was not known by the IP Application Development.

This month, the case will be heard in Shanghai district court. Another case is also at bar in Beijing, where Proview is claiming 240 million Yuan or $38 million as fine. Last year, Apple already lost a case in China where it claimed patent infringement from Proview Technology.

The third-generation Apple iPad is expected to be available in March. That month was chosen because it will be a “window of opportunity” for the company to ensure a good market share.

Windows 8 based tablets are not expected to gain many consumers until at least 2013. Moreover, some tablets are shifting from Windows to Android and will take some time to stabilize.

These factors are expected to make the iOS-based iPad a leading choice for many consumers. March was also chosen because that time frame ensures that Apple will not receive damage from such products, which are similar to each other in their specifications.

In the tablet niche, Apple’s main rivals are the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Transformer Prime. Amazon’s Kindle Fire is also doing a good job as an eReader.

Apple, however, has decided to blow the competition away by offering good specifications. Among the expected features of the new iPad are a quad-core processor A6, which will make it much faster than the iPad 2. A high resolution Retina display with 2048 x 1536 pixels is also possible as well as LTE connectivity. A better new camera and the virtual assistant Siri might also be available.

Currently, Apple is experiencing phenomenal success in the stock market and is hoping to continue this success with the iPad 3.

The iPad’s unique split keyboard has generated various responses. On one end of the spectrum, some users are raving about it, claiming that it is very comfortable to use.

On the other hand, some are saying that its unusual design is not suited to their taste, and would prefer the normal, non-split type of keyboard. The function of this design is to allow people to use their thumb to key in input while holding the tablet with their hand.

However, beyond the unique design, some users are not aware that there are hidden keys that help make the input method more flexible. This is because Apple has not stated this functionality on its official manuals for the iPad.

The keys are available when the user taps the space beside the halves of the split keyboard. This makes some more letters appear in the space.

The hidden keys allow people to use their thumbs to input three more letters Users may avail of this functionality when using the standard letter layout, and even in keying in numbers and special characters.

The feature appears to be useful when there is the need to hold the tablet PC with one hand, such as when one is playing a game. Of course, for users who prefer the regular keyboard, there is always the option of docking and merging it.

Specifically, the rumors claimed that a future MacBook Air would have an ARM-based processor. However, it appears now that this is now improbable.

Apple is now focusing its innovations on the iOS and mobile platforms, which means that tablets and mobile phones are their main priority. The prediction is that the sales of tablets will eventually surpass those of traditional computers.

Anyway, future tablets with their improved specifications will fulfil the needs of those who are used to computing on the MacBook Air. The current iPhone and iPad both had ARM-based chips called the A5. On the other hand, the MacBook Air runs on energy-efficient Sandy Bridge core CPUs.

But if Apple is not planning to release the rumored ARM-powered MacBook Air computers, then what is in store for consumers?

For starters, there is the new iPad 3 which sports an A6 chip and an HD 2048 x 1536 pixel retina display touch screen. This tablet will also likely be capable of LTE 4G broadband connectivity.

There are also rumors for a better keyboard for the iPad, something perhaps like what is found on the Asus Transformer Prime. Lastly, there are reports of more iPad models with smaller or bigger sizes to compete with other brands such as Samsung’s 11.6-inch tablet.

Clove, the first retailer to sell the Transformer Prime in the UK, has just announced that it decided to withdraw the Asus quad-core tablet from its offer. This is due to availability problems as well as a great number of technical issues.

Ever since the quad-core tablet started selling, Asus struggled to deliver enough units to meet demand. Furthermore, many customers started to complain about its dodgy GPS performance shortly after Asus shipped the first Primes, so the company decided to remove the GPS functionally from the TF201 specs sheet in the US.

Just several days ago, Transformer Prime owners ran into a new series of problems as they try to update the OS to Android 4.0, which so far haven’t been resolved. These problems go as far as from “serial number not found” error that prevents the update from installing to a series of random freezes which affect the Primes from running the latest version of Android.

Despite the issues that the Transformer Prime face, UK customers may still want to consider buying another ASUS Tablet. After all, there are rumors that the company is already working on new Transformer tablets, which are expected to perform better.

New rumors regarding the next-generation iPad are again circulating after several of these have been chucked to the recycle bin. A new, possibly plausible new feature is that it will have quad-core processing as well as LTE connectivity. The source of the rumor is Boy Genius Report, a website that claims to have an actual prototype of the iPad 3.

The source has provided several images to accompany this rumor. These images are screenshots of a debugging tool and diagnostic software that is called iBoot. The tool is allegedly running on an actual iPad 3.

The screenshots from the iBoot reveals two new iPad gadgets, namely model J1 (iPad 3,1) and model J2 (iPad 3,2). One of these is allegedly a model that supports Wi-Fi, while the other supports GSM/CDMA/LTE 4G connectivity for all networks or carriers.

The screenshots also show a processor with the model number S5L8945X. Taken together with the Apple A4 and A5 chips, this implies that the new tablet will be carrying a new A6 quad-core central processing unit. This makes the next-generation iPad the fastest iOS device when it is released.

Among the other rumors surrounding the new iPad 3 is that it will have an HD Retina Display. Said screen will be allegedly created by Sharp and will have a dual lightbox plus a pixel display resolution of 1536 x 2048. The new tablet is also said to have double the capacity of the iPad 2 in terms of battery life.

Next-generation iPads may bring exciting new features for its users.

One such feature is MagSafe connector technology, in which devices are connected to the power source through the help of small magnets. MagSafe reduces the risk of damaging connectors, power sockets, or the device falling to the floor by keeping the connector firmly in place. This technology replaces the popular cable and male/female port connections that can be easily destroyed by wear and tear. The MagSafe technology has been seen on MacBook laptops as early as 2006, but it might soon be also available on the iPad or even the iPhone.

Apple, however, seems to be taking the magnet idea further than connectors or adapters. There are rumors that the next-generation iPad and iPhone may have a stylus attachment, which will also have small magnets at the tip. This is imagined to be the substitute for the dock connector with 30 pins currently found on the devices.

The new stylus feature also has a dock that will be connected to the device. The function of said feature is to facilitate the exchange of data with the iPad, iPhone or MacBook.

The said magnets will be duly coded, and each one will be unique that may be used to identify the device, hence, may be used for added security.

You’ll notice that every year at CES, tech-surveillance groups participate in a sort of stylespotting — an attempt to spot 0ne or two huge themes of the show that could steal or characterize the year in technology. And last year, the few ones that were easy to spot (was, 3D TV and tablets), while other occasions it entailed a bit of presumption. But this year among the most oft-cited styles is the “ultrabook.” Citing from the companies’ announcements at CES, and the coverage they got, one would think that’s a fresh sort of gadget or a completely new kind of laptop. But, honestly, these are just thin, slick laptops.

Perhaps Ultrabooks, a name entirely-owned and fabricated by Intel, and the excitement that’s seen for them at the show is just a start. Intel is allegedly planning its major advertising thrust in 8 years to campaign for Ultrabooks, and it’s obviously by now done a decent job of making sure hardware manufacturers are on board the bandwagon. Even though Ultrabooks did receive a little less publicity at the time, they essentially debuted in May of 2012 during Taiwan’s Computex trade show, where Intel pointed out the devices as PCs that “get hitched on the performance and features of today’s laptops with tablet-like characteristics and bring an extremely responsive and reliable experience, in a slick, light and stylish design.” According to ASUS Chairman, Jonney Shih, “Ultrabooks are here to change the way individuals interact with their computers.”

It’s great to see smaller, thinner laptops that are just as capable as their bigger counterparts, and that’s just the way laptops have evolved over the years. The obvious case is the MacBook Air – that technically can’t be called an Ultrabook, albeit it is questionably the major rival to all of the new machines introduced at CES.

Another similarity that frequently comes up is the netbook – a name that has somehow survived to exist close to the laptop, although netbooks are useful because they define what they are. A netbook often is not a laptop substitute for most users. It’s smaller and usually cheaper compared to a proper laptop, except that comes with a few real trades-offs. In fact, calling netbooks laptops is doing a disservice to consumers.

So what’s all the hype behind Ultrabooks? Really, there’s no any reason behind it, but a number of factors would have contributed to this hype. Kit Eaton only just explored several potentials in a fraction for Fast Company and not only the immediate threat from Apple, but the increasing availability of ARM-based devices – shortly to embrace Windows 8-based tablets. Besides, tablets as a whole seem to be one of the factors driving the Ultrabook excitement. They are a justifiably “fresh staff,” and are driving attention away from the old staff.

There’s still some potential for more real innovation in the gap among tablets and laptops, though. At the moment, you can get a slate that docks with a keyboard, yet it doesn’t substitute a laptop, and a laptop that switches into a tablet, yet it won’t replace a tablet. Windows 8 allows such devices (for example: pictured above, Lenovo’s IdeaPad Yoga is quite near but not yet), and it appears Apple is also moving in a related direction too, considering the thinning gap between iOS and OS X. We’re yet to receive some new hype on those devices, perhaps freshly branded.

The competition for selling mobile phone cases must be tough. For instance, even before the official release of the iPhone 4S, factories have been churning out cases and other accessories for the predictably popular mobile phone.

Of course, it always pays to be prepared for the throngs of consumers who will line up to buy said cases to customize their gadgets. The problem, however, is if the factories have been fed wrong information about the specifications.

Loads of dollars would then be lost because these cases and accessories would be unusable as they would be too small or too big for the gadgets themselves. One would think that said manufacturers would have learned their lesson already, but here comes news again that they are creating iPad 3, or (iPad 2S, according to some) cases before they know the gadget’s official dimensions.

Interestingly, said dimensions are based on rumors culled from sources such as blogs and forums, which claim to have sources from inside Apple. Some such rumors claim, for instance, that the new iPad will be almost the same as the iPad2, except for the fact that it will be a bit thicker, about 1mm, because of some upgrades.

These sound much like the rumor that the iPhone 5 will have a teardrop design—however, that has not been confirmed as well. In any case, it would still be wise to just wait for the official release, instead of risk losing money over wrong information.
