The Eee PC 701 might be too old for all of us, having witness the barrage of Eee PC variants that Asus has launched and released so far. But like, Asus Philippines where the Eee PC 701 was tied up with free travel package contest, Vodafone Portugal on the other hand is marketing the Eee PC 701 via a bundled hardware for their internet mobility package.

Dubbed as the Vodafone NetPC, the Eee PC 701 gets bundled up with a Vodafone Connect Pen which would enable Vodafone customers to browse the web at a speed of 7.2mbps. Of course the package comes with some Vodafone service agreement - and that’s an 18-month contract for the price of around 199.90 euros for the Linux version or 229.90 euros for the Windows XP Eee PC 701 models.

Asus Philippines may have over-estimated their stock of the Eee PC 701, or maybe the release of the Eee PC 900 might have pre-empted the sale of the 701, hence they needed so badly to dispose their few remaining units of the first generation Eee PC. And what better way to encourage consumers to buy the Eee PC 701 but to hold a contest. The Prize Pot? A 3 Days/2 Nights Holiday Trip to Hong Kong Disneyland.

Unfortunately, the plane ticket is good only for Manila-HongKong-Manila. So, that eliminates you our dear readers from outside Manila, Philippines. For our readers in Manila who are planning to buy the Eee PC 701 but are still having second thoughts, this contest might convince you to get the Eee PC 701 now.

Promo runs until 19, just in time for the draw on 20 Aug. For more details, visit Asus Philippines

Heard of any promotional gig in your area to boost sales of the Eee PC 701? Feel free to share with us in the comment.

First the good news, Mobile Stylus reported that Newegg has offered a $100 price discount on the just released Eee PC 1000h. From the original $649.99, Newegg is offering it for $549.99. And it was only a few days before it was released, and many Eee PC fanatics have already placed their order. Unfortunately, although Newegg is still offering the discounted Eee PC 1000h right now, you won’t be getting your machine in 3 days time as the supply is currently OUT OF STOCK.

For those who are placing their orders for the Eee PC 1000h at Newegg, expected time of arrival for new supply will be on July 25, 2008.

Newegg is offering the Ebony Black Eee PC 1000h with 80GB HDD, running on Windows XP and which has a 7.5 hours battery life. It’s definitely a good steal at $549.99

Despite the worldwide economic slump that is besetting us all, worldwide PC unit sales continues to post significant growth in Q2, Gartner reports. According to Gartner, a total of 71.9 million PCs were shipped in Q2 which is a 16% increase in Q2 of 2007.  Strong PC sales were registered in Europe, Middle East and African regions where 23.1 million units were solds.

HP tops the list of manufacturers who posted a growth in PC sales with its 4.5 million units sales followed by Acer, Dell, Toshiba and Asus.

Now here’s the most interesting part. Among the 5 brands, Asus enjoyed the largest growth with a total sale of 1.3 million PC units shipped. This is a whooping 159.1% increase from previous year. And what made Asus reached this numbers? - the Eee PC.

Now you know why, other manufacturers have been rushing to come up with their own mini-pcs and netbooks.

What do we have here? We all know that Asus has already made available the Eee PC 901 with a 20GB and 12GB SSD. We also know that Asus is about to ship the Eee PC 1000 with a 40GB SSD, and the 1000h with an 80GB HDD. Plus there was also the announced Eee PC 904 and 905. With all these Eee PC models that advances from the Eee PC 900, we wouldn’t expect Asus to retract a bit on its product strategy and release a new Eee PC 900 model.

But it seems like Asus maybe prepping up that model after all, if an Asus China product spec would be the basis. In fact, the Asus China has even listed three variants of the Eee PC 900 with 30GB HDD, black and white models with Linux OS and a Black model with Windows XP.

The price for the Linux version was said to be around $512, while the XP version would sell for around $612.

No words yet on when this Eee PC 900s will be released as well as where it will be released. Stay tune for updates.

Asus has started launching the Eee Box and the Eee PC 1000h in Asia, particularly in Singapore. Actually, I just spoke with a Philippine contact awhile ago inviting me to the product launch of the Eee PC 901 in Manila supposedly on the 23rd of July, but apparently it has to be cancelled since the Asus has changed their mind and decided to launch the Eee PC Box and the Eee PC 901 instead. Apparently, the Eee PC 901 will no longer be released here. Could be due to the lack of supply for the Atom?

Anyway, going back to the launch of the Eee PC Box. From the published photos taken during the product launch, the Eee PC Box looks sleek. It touts a 5 seconds boot up and runs on Windows XP. All the features that were recently published are intact, including - Intel Atom Chipset, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, WIFI, Card Reader and LAN.

The Eee PC Box retails for around $325.

Linux-powered Eee PC 901 has quickly run out of stock in UK stores and that only the Windows version is still available. Before irate Linux fans who’ve been looking forward to getting their Eee PC 901 with the Linux OS, start thinking that Microsoft may have something to do with the scarcity of supply of the Linux models, Asus was quick to announced that they’ve got nobody to blame but Intel.

Register Hardware is reporting that Intel is faltering on the supply of Atom CPUs and that shipments of the Eee PC 901 to the UK has become too limited. In fact, the first shipment of the Eee PC 901 with Linux has already been sold out and Asus UK is now awaiting for the second shipment to arrive, sometime late July.

Now who says that Linux is not the key to the Eee PC Product line’s success?

Our friends in Hong Kong will have the privilege of getting a first-hand look and feel at the new Eee Box which is launching today in the Hong Kong market. The Eee Box, also known as the Asus B202 will feature a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, Linux OS, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and some models with Bluetooth functionality.

The Eee B202 will be available in white, black, cherry red and green and was said to be the size of an A4 sheet of paper and measures 16mm in thickness.

The Eee B202 will retail for around $320.36 in Hong Kong.

After the frenzy created by the release of the Eee PC 901, the next Eee PC iteration that is starting to create a stir among netbook fans is the release of the Eee PC 1000. Current.com.au is reporting that JB Hi-Fi, on one of Australia’s leading retail store, JB Hi-Fi already has it stock. Some folks at the EeeUser Forum has attested to this, with one forum member reporting that he has his Eee PC 1000 already and that JB Hi-Fi still has 10 units of it.

JB Hi-Fi got their units way ahead of the other retailers, apparently because of their good relations with the Taiwanese Asus Company. They are selling the Eee PC 1000 for $698. And its pre-loaded with Intel ATOM CPU, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, WI-FI, 1.3 webcam and 4.5 hours of battery time.
