It’s machined from a piece of aluminum, with up and down brushed outline on the base and palmrest and to some extent darker circular blueprint on the lid. And it even gets exciting; Asus has tossed in a booby trap: it has the power button included in the usual keyboard, at the top right angle where you’d expect your fingers to find the equally Delete key. When you press Delete key, you’ll be prompted with a menu requesting whether you want the PC to shut down, hibernate, sleep, or do nothing at all.

Zenbook’s innards are all firmly packed together inside the oh-so-lean casing, with the UX21′s slender-line cooler casing Intel Core i5-2467M dual-core possessors. On the left side you’ll find mini-VGA including USB 2.0 ports and a microphone /headphone jack. The right side is home to USB 3.0 ports and micro-HDMI. Asus also did offer a dongle adapter for the VGA to supply USB to Ethernet (about 100Mbps, and not Gigabit) for users who would want to link to wired office LANs. As expected, 802.11n Wi-Fi is built in; you just need to make a wireless connection for surfing the Web and downloading software.

Asus has come up with a new ultraportable laptop that measures only an inch (25.1 mm) in thickness and weighs 2.9 lbs. (1.32 kg). This Ultrabook, called the U47, however, appears less sleek than models like the Asus UX31 but its portability gives it its edge, even over models like 5.6-pound HP Envy or the 4.4-pound Dell XPS 14z.

The Asus U47 offers an Ivy Bridge Intel Core i5 or i7 processor. It has a storage capacity of up to 1 TB and support for up to 8 GB of memory. Its screen spans 14 inches while the shell measures 13 inches and with display resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels.

As for its graphics, the Asus U47 will have two varieties. One of these, the U47A will come with Intel HD integrated graphics, whereas the U47VC will have an Nvidia dedicated graphics card.

This Ultrabook, which is the next-generation model of the Asus U46, also has a narrow LCD bezel. Its design, however has changed from the previous model as it is now thinner. It is also equipped with a built-in optical drive, and eight hours of battery life.

There is no word as to the Asus U47’s price and official launch date. However, it is expected to be released sometime during the second quarter of 2012.

Getac Technology and Bin Chuan Enterprise are set to start shipping newly-manufactured laptop casings made of a composite of fiberglass, metal and plastic.

The Taiwan-based supply chain companies have produced these cases for Ultrabooks that will be released in the second quarter of this year.

This development follows Intel’s suggestion to find other durable materials for Ultrabook laptop bodies other than Unibody’s aluminum alloy casings. Metal alloy currently strains the budget of manufacturers because of its relative high price.

Moreover, Apple uses a lot of the production capacity of metal alloy cases for their laptops starting in 2008 when they first used these cases for the MacBook.

Getac Technology is creating the composite cases through rapid heat cycle molding RHCM. The company has a monthly capacity of 4.5 million fiberglass-metal-plastic cases.

They also have yield rates greater than 90%. While the Bin Chuan Enterprise is hiking its production capacity of the cases to 1.8 million.

The new cases by Getac Technology and Bin Chuan Enterprise lower the selling price of Ultrabooks by around $50 to 100 as compared to models with Unibody aluminum alloy cases.

Companies such as Asustek Computers, Lenovo, Hewlett Packard and Acer are all expected to release models with such new cases at around $699-799.

Netbook is already losing its fame, while computer usage model either trends towards tablets or thin and light Ultrabooks. However, ASUS still believes some people might want one, especially if it is the ASUS Eee PC SeaShell 1225B, with AMD APU core .

This portable consumer electronics device measures 11.6 inches in diagonal with a screen resolution of 1376 x 768 pixels. An AMD E450 APU acts as the heart, with the two x86 cores have a clock speed of 1.65 GHz, while the video performance is provided by the Integrated AMD Radeon HD 6320 GPU. The chip features the Turbo Core dynamic overclocking technology as well.

In addition to the APU, the SeaShell 1225B comes with 4 GB of RAM (random access memory) and a hard drive unit (HDD) with a capacity of 750 GB.

Moreover, a pair of USB 3.0 ports are part of the spec sheet, along with one USB 2.0 connector, HDMI, VGA, a card reader and a webcam with protection lock. Finally, the operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and, ASUS tossed in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11 N for wireless connectivity.

Price is not yet announced for this notebook, but the Seashell 1225B will be arriving in March.

It has a size of 17.3 inches and it is packed with powerful functionalities.

The most notable among this is its central processing unit. The K5 will have at its core the third-generation Ivy Bridge processor. Said processor promises to improve computing performance by having tri-gate transistor technology which cuts down on power usage, RAM support for up to 2800 MT/s, and a higher limit of execution units as compared to the Sandy Bridge model. Its processor will give about 20 to 30 percent increase in terms of CPU and GPU performance.

Speaking of GPU, the Asus K5 has a 28 nm NVIDIA Geforce GTX 670M chip. Its chip is popular among gaming enthusiasts and other users who need high graphics performance and thus will deliver sharp and vibrant images on the Asus K5’s screen.

The K5 is also equipped with 2TB of storage capacity coupled with up to 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. The screen has a pixel display resolution of 1600 × 900. Other features include a choice between a DVD writer or a Blu-ray drive.

There is no word as to the price or when it will be available for consumers.

This new device joins the list of Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablets by the same company, alongside earlier models such as the Asus TF101 and Asus TF201.

Another model that has been recently announced is the TF700, which will likely be released in June this year. This tablet was previewed in Consumer Electronics Show 2012 with a 1920 × 1200 HD pixel display resolution touch screen, and a $600 (32 GB) to $700 (64 GB) price tag. As per usual, it will have the speedy NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core central processing unit.

Another budget-friendly slate is also in the process of getting ready for its launch during the second quarter of this year. It was spotted in China as some reports implied.

Scant information, however, is available for the new TF300T. Judging from the pictures posted, this device comes with a textured back panel in a rust shade, and has a webcam. Some are speculating that it might run on Windows 8 instead of Android, on which the other models are running.

With this new gagdet, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab and Motorola’s Xoom will perhaps face some competition.

ASUS is rumored to be working on yet another version of its Eee Pad tablet. The TF300T design and model number suggest that this tablet is a follow-up to the company’s quad-core Transformer Prime TF101, which was released last year. The rumored tablet was seen on a Taiwanese site, NCCC and is said to be accompanied by a certification from QuieTek, which provides wireless testing for electronics.

This new ASUS tablet has a 10.1-inch screen and its outer features appear to be identical to that of the Transformer. Apart from this, no other specs are revealed about the device as of now. The device was assembled by Wistron.

The rumored tablet may turn out to be nothing more than a guinea pig for a current or past device. Still, anyone can expect that this tablet may come with more features as well as better performance. More information about the device may be revealed at Mobile World Congress if ever this rumor would be true.

Clove, the first retailer to sell the Transformer Prime in the UK, has just announced that it decided to withdraw the Asus quad-core tablet from its offer. This is due to availability problems as well as a great number of technical issues.

Ever since the quad-core tablet started selling, Asus struggled to deliver enough units to meet demand. Furthermore, many customers started to complain about its dodgy GPS performance shortly after Asus shipped the first Primes, so the company decided to remove the GPS functionally from the TF201 specs sheet in the US.

Just several days ago, Transformer Prime owners ran into a new series of problems as they try to update the OS to Android 4.0, which so far haven’t been resolved. These problems go as far as from “serial number not found” error that prevents the update from installing to a series of random freezes which affect the Primes from running the latest version of Android.

Despite the issues that the Transformer Prime face, UK customers may still want to consider buying another ASUS Tablet. After all, there are rumors that the company is already working on new Transformer tablets, which are expected to perform better.

In this year’s CES, among Asustek’s products which gained much attention were its G5 gaming series. However, the company also had several notebooks that were designed for multimedia use. They are called the N6 multimedia laptops.

Said laptops will have 3rd-generation Intel Core (Ivy Bridge) central processing units, specifically Ivy Bridge Core i5 and i7. For crisp and vibrant images, Asus chose the graphics card Nvidia GeForce 500 – series.

The new N6 series namely N46, N56 and N67 come with an aluminium case for both the lid and the base. There is also a glossy display finish for models that come in bright colors. Users will also enjoy the high-quality sound offered by the Bang & Olufsen. Said models also come with a chiclet-type keyboard.

A preview video of one of these models is now available at the Asus official website for interested buyers.

These multimedia laptops are expected to hit the market around the second quarter of 2012. To date, there is no word as to their suggested retail prices.
