Getac Technology and Bin Chuan Enterprise are set to start shipping newly-manufactured laptop casings made of a composite of fiberglass, metal and plastic.

The Taiwan-based supply chain companies have produced these cases for Ultrabooks that will be released in the second quarter of this year.

This development follows Intel’s suggestion to find other durable materials for Ultrabook laptop bodies other than Unibody’s aluminum alloy casings. Metal alloy currently strains the budget of manufacturers because of its relative high price.

Moreover, Apple uses a lot of the production capacity of metal alloy cases for their laptops starting in 2008 when they first used these cases for the MacBook.

Getac Technology is creating the composite cases through rapid heat cycle molding RHCM. The company has a monthly capacity of 4.5 million fiberglass-metal-plastic cases.

They also have yield rates greater than 90%. While the Bin Chuan Enterprise is hiking its production capacity of the cases to 1.8 million.

The new cases by Getac Technology and Bin Chuan Enterprise lower the selling price of Ultrabooks by around $50 to 100 as compared to models with Unibody aluminum alloy cases.

Companies such as Asustek Computers, Lenovo, Hewlett Packard and Acer are all expected to release models with such new cases at around $699-799.

Acer has just started selling its latest nettop based on AMD’s high-end Brazos APU for $329.99, or 251 EUR. The new Revo RL70 bears a strong resemblance to the rest of the company’s nettops, but this time it received a somewhat more refined design that won’t make it feel out of place in the leaving room, near your HDTV.

The Revo RL70 runs on AMD E-450 accelerated processing unit, which sports dual Bobcat x86 processing cores clocked at 1.65GHz. Its graphics capabilities, on the other hand, is driven by Radeon HD 6320, featuring some impressive multimedia capabilities. It also comes with a 500GB hard drive, together with 2GB of DDR3 system memory.

Despite its small size, the Acer nettop comes with a range of ports and connectors, including audio jacks, four rear USB 2.0 ports, two frontal USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, as well as VGA and HDMI video outputs. A multi-format card reader, WiFi connectivity and an S/PDIF audio output is also included to the specs list.

If these specs are to good for home use, the E-450 powered Revo RL70 is now available on Amazon for $329.99 (251 EUR). The Acer Revo RL70 system also comes with a keyboard and mouse, so everything you need is included inside the box.

At an opening ceremony during the commemoration of the lunar new year. Acer’s Chairman JT Wang had announced its new years resolutions. This year, Acer will no longer be defending its position in the market. However, he warned that they will be on the attack since they will be moving aggressively in the Ultrabook, Notebook, Tablet as well as in Smartphone categories. Netbooks on the other hand will be merging the Netbooks with the Ultrabook category over the next 18-24 months.

Acer is planning on being the most aggressive about ultrabooks and four new models are expected to be released in the second quarter and the third quarter. These devices may cost $699-799 USD.

Tablets are also high on Acer’s list, while Amazon has the bottom and Apple at the top, they’re going to focus on the mid-range with their tablets coming in the $299-499. They expect that this category has a shipment scale of about 10-20 million units.

For this year, President Jim Wong notes that Acer will no longer compete through price and will be concentrating more on user experience and demand.

Many ultrabooks with 13.3 inch displays weigh about as much as a 10 inch netbook, but offer full-sized keyboards and displays and far more processing power. Toshiba offers its ultrabook for around $849, while Acer says that it could be selling these little laptops for $499 by 2013 .

As for this year, Acer have released its ultrabook lineup due second quarter. Then in the third quarter, the company will also introduce more ultrabook models that will sell for between $699 and $799. At this price bracket, Acer ultrabooks should measure less than an inch thick, weigh 4 pounds or less, and have Intel Core i-series processors with either solid state disk or a hard drive for storage.

While $699 isn’t exactly pocket change for some buyers, this still proves to be a much more affordable price than the $1000 or more offered by other companies on their ultrabooks today.

This distinction is important because by definition, an Ultrabook is a thin and lightweight laptop that runs on an Intel central processing unit. The name “Ultrabook” itself has been trademarked to include the Intel specification. The graphics, however, do not necessarily have to be by Intel.

For instance, rumor has it that new models by Asus and Acer will have graphics cards by NVIDIA’s next-generation Kepler graphics. The new Lenovo IdeaPad U410, likewise, will possibly run on a GMA 610 graphics card.

Conscious of the need to switch between systems, Intel provides users built-in options to choose graphics capabilities. This means that, depending on the user’s needs, he or she may use Intel integrated graphics or NVIDIA graphics.

On the other hand, Kepler graphics has the new NVIDIA Optimus functionality, which allows the device to switch between the graphics chips without waiting for a command to do so from the user. For example, if you are playing a 3D video game, Kepler graphics will automatically be turned on. But on other occasions which do not demand such high-powered graphics, such as web browsing, the Intel HD graphics will be used.

The Acer Iconia Tab A700 will be out very soon. Some of its specs were already out, but the pricing still remains unknown.

The A700 is believed to run on a quad-core 1.3 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 progressor and it should also have an Android 4.0. Eternal features include a HDMI, dual cameras, Wi-Fi, and a 9,800 mAh battery. And we know that is should be out in the second quarter of this year.

According to German website Tablet Test, the entry-level price for 16 GB version will be €549 and €749 for the 64 GB model. in the US, it should play around $719 and $981, respectively. These are admittedly a bit steep, but the power from these monstrous devices is worth it. The question is whether or not they’ll sell.

These may not be the official prices since there’s no confirmation has been made yet. It also hasn’t confirmed a date for its release. However, the company has slated a vague second quarter time frame. The A700 is perhaps Acer’s biggest push into the tablet market to date, and there are many eyes wondering how it will do.

As showcased at the CES 2012 fair, Acer will be starting to produce Iconia Tab A510 tablet on February or March this year and should be arriving in stores around Europe this April. The said device will be selling 500 EUR or US$649.

The Iconia Tab A510 comes as A700 snaller brother that also sports a 10.1-inch screen. The only thing is that the former has a more standard 1280×800 resolution, which runs on Nvidia’s quad-core chipset and Android 4.0. The fast Nvidia chipset is supported by 1GB of RAM and can sport either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of storage space.

On the sides of the tablet, Acer has placed pretty much all the ports and connectors, including a micro-USB port, a microSD slot as well as a mini-HDMI output for connecting an external display or HDTV to the Iconia Tab A510.

On its connectivity, the A510 features both Bluetooth and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi. Acer’s tablet is also equipped with dual cameras, one placed in the front and one in the back, but the resolution that these run at is not yet known.

As of now, Acer said that the A510 should be available for 500 EUR ($649 US), but it seems that the outfit can make some slight adjustments to the tablet’s price, if in case it can’t top the other similar slates.

Two new updates have followed a press event in Hamburg as Acer unveils its new products in its tablet line-up, the Iconia Tab A700 and A510. The Tablet Community as well as the Tablet Test expect the quad-core Android 4.0 tablets to be produced starting in February or March and should be available in April.

One Acer staff, gave the tentative pricing for both models. The A510 would likely sell at €500 with tax included. On the other hand, the 64GB A700 will cost no more than €749. Prices could go down when “competition” calls for it. The European costs could also be the basis for American pricing, which is more or less the same and could mean a range of $499 to $749 before tax.

The two Iconia Tabs sport 10-inch screens and runs on NVidia Tegra 3 processors, which give them much better performance. However, the A510 has a 1280×800 resolution, while the A700 will have a 1920×1080 display that’s very much ideal for web browsing, reading, and video playback. Acer is expected to release 16GB versions of each.

While it arrived a week later from its original January 15 schedule, Acer has finally tarted selling the Iconia Tab A200 in the US. Now, buyers can have the 16GB model for $349.99 at BestBuy. No one can actually tell what caused the delay, but it seems that the company have ran into some sort of distribution problems.

While the Iconia Tab A200 was announced to be available at the beginning of this year, Acer said that it will come in two colors. The metallic grey version is the one that’s seen on Best Buy, while the other will come with a red and back scheme.

At the heart of this tablet sits an Nvidia Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip (SoC) device, with dual processing cores at 1GHz, paired with 1GB of RAM. And in case the provided storage isn’t enough, the tablet also comes with an additional microSD card slot that can extend the total data storage capacity up to 32GB.

The Iconia Tab A200 weights 700g (1.54 pounds), while its 10.1-inch display sports a native resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The tablet comes pre-installed with the 3.2 version of the Android OS Honeycomb as well as Acer specific apps. The slate will also get an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich anytime in the future.

Acer Iconia Tab A200 also has an 8GB version that’s thought to carry a $329.99 price tag. However, it wasn’t spotted anywhere online yet.
