Europeans Love Acer Netbooks More than the Eee PCs

Reports from Canalys analyst Natalie Spitz say that Asus leads the netbook manufacturers pact in terms of market share in Europe. Acer has a commanding 32.4% market share followed by Asus with 19.6%. Area coverage include – Europe, Middle East and EMEA countries. Acer’s netbook shipment to Europe is growing at 4.2% from Q3 2008 to Q3 2009.

Isn’t it interesting that Asus who was supposed to have carved the netbook market niche is now playing second fiddle to Acer who was rather a little late in entering the market? What does it say? Does it mean that Acer netbooks are better than the Eee PCs? Or cheaper perhaps?

Other stats from other netbook companies include – Samsung with 12%, HP with 11.6%, Toshiba with 4.2% and Dell with only 3.5%.

The report also said that there were around 3.7m netbooks shipped in the EMEA regional along for Q3. This is 68.9% more than what was ship a year ago. This only goes to show that netbooks are still getting their share of the PC market industry.

Acer Officially Launches the Ferrari Netbook

Somewhere in Japan, has officially launched its latest netbook – the Ferrari ONE. Obviously, this is an F1-inspired netbook as seen on its design and form factor. The Ferrari One netbook sports a Royal Red color with red hinges, and of course the vaulting horse badge which Ferrari is known for.

Specs wise, the Ferrari ONE live up to its car counterpart, boasting an AMD Athlon Neo X2 L310 1.20Ghz CPU, AMD M780G chipset, ATI Radeon HD 3200, 4GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, 11.6-inch LED-backlit display in 1366×768 resolution and a weight of 1.5kg.

Pricing is still unavailable, but we’re pretty sure it will be release to the Japanese market on November 27.

Samsung is releasing the Samsung Go again, this time under AT&T’s mobile 3G plan. And to make it even more exciting, the new Samsung Go was upgraded to Windows 7 Starter Edition.

Samsung Go will be available on AT&T starting November 22. And in case you’re interested to get it, be it known that you will have to be tied up to an AT&T service agreement. If you don’t mind at all, the Samsung Go will give you the following key features – 2.8 lbs, pebble-style keyboard, LED-backlit, borderless glass display, 4-cell battery with 4 hours battery life, Intel Atom N270 CPU.

Crunchpad already ’steamrolling’, to cost between $300 and $400 USD

If at this point in time you still haven’t found your mobile Web surfing device of choice, you might want to take a look at Michael Arrington’s CrunchPad again as there are quite a few new updates regarding the said device. First, Michael Arrington himself has confirmed that the Crunchpad is already steamrolling and that the costs keep coming down so expect it to be launched very very soon. Second, it’s going to cost about $300 to $400 USD plus advertising in the form of sponsorships, and while I’m not sure what exactly that means I’m willing to bet it’s just another way of saying, “We’re going to show ads on the screen whenever, wherever,” though of course I could be wrong.

Also, it’s going to be sold only on the Web. So clearly Michael Arrington knows what he’s getting into with the somewhat ridiculously high pricing, considering how much already existing mobile Internet devices like the iPod touch and Archos Internet tablets cost (clue: somewhere around half the price of the CrunchPad. Right now, the CrunchPad isn’t available anywhere online or offline but expect a big announcement to come out about it soon.

UK sees Samsung NC10 reduced

We recently reported that the very popular NC10 by Samsung had been spotted for 299 Euros, down from 375 Euros. This time round, it’s the UK’s turn to see the netbook reduced.

Originally just Argos had the netbook for a lower price at £249.99 compared to £329.99 at Currys and PC World. Now the netbook is available from PC World and Currys for £239.99, even less than Argos. Unfortunately it’s not quite as simply as going in to the store and picking the NC10 up for that price. The companies have put a £70 reduction on the netbook but the other £20 saving, is claimed via redemption from Samsung. Still, if that doesn’t bother you, go ahead and pick the NC10 up from PC World or Currys for £259.99 and get £20 back.

Dual core Acer Aspire 1410 reviewed, deemed better than original

Brad of Liliputing has taken the time to test an updated version of the Acer Aspire 1410 and has concluded that the new dual core version is more deserving of your money than the original single core version. The new Acer Aspire 1410 comes with a 1.2GHz Intel Celeron SU2300 processor instead of the old 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500. The result is that it’s better at some things like video and audio encoding, HD video streaming, and general computing tasks which can take up to three times longer or won’t work at all on most other netbooks. And while it also has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, and a 6-cell battery, it will only set you back $399 a piece. Colorful S101 NewYork netbook isn’t from New York, isn’t from Asus, and isn’t colorful

I love names that are easy to interpret. The Incredible Hulk? That guy’s scary. The Three Stooges? Those guys are funny. The Colorful S101 NewYork netbook? That’s a special edition Asus S101 with a dash of colors and is made in New York City… right? Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

It’s actually a pretty basic looking netbook made by a Chinese company called Colorful. It has a 1024×600 10-inch display, 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 160GB hard drive and up to 2GB of RAM. It also boasts a built-in accelerometer–yes, the same one that helped make Apple’s iPod touch and iPhone famous–that enables auto-rotation of the display when the netbook is held in portrait mode and automatic shutdown when the netbook is detected to be in freefall. Pretty nifty, right? Right. It’s probably going to be a bit hard to get one of these outside of China, though.

HTC mulling entry into netbook market

As if the netbook market wasn’t already crowded enough, Taiwan smartphone giant HTC is reportedly considering entry and aims to release a model that “added “unique value” to current netbook offerings.” Company CEO Peter Chou himself was quoted as saying that HTC is “carefully looking into that category and how it can be part of that.” Well, I don’t think anyone would mind that–after all, competition is never a bad thing in this industry.

But a lot of questions can be raised regarding HTC’s intention to enter the fast-growing netbook market: what will differentiate their offering from the dozens of other models already available in the market? Will it be bundled with an operator contract? Will it run Windows, Linux, or Android? I guess we’ll never know. Not until HTC comes out and speaks about these things officially, of course. And when they are ready, we’ll let you know.

The days when netbooks were limited to having just 2GB of RAM and single core processors are long gone. Even possibly no-name companies with unfamiliar brand names are churning out babies that further prove this point these days. The Flybook v5 has an awesome name and somewhat awesome innards: 1.2GHz dual core ultra-low-voltage processor, support for up to 4GB of RAM and Windows 7 multi-touch gestures on its touchscreen display. Besides the aforementioned features, it also touts a couple of USB ports, an ExpressCard slot and up to 4-5 hours of battery life. Pricing for the Flybook v5 isn’t known, but it’s probably not going to be available in your area anyway.
