fujitsulifebookp3110-lg

Fujitsu have announced two more products to the LifeBook range. Both the P3010 and P3110 feature an 11.6 inch display, multi touch trackpads and run Windows 7. Like the MacBook Air they will be able to share a DVD drive from the local network, to burn or read disks which is a tad more useful on these netbooks as they don’t include an optical drive.

The P3110 features an Intel Pentium processor while the P3010 will feature an AMD AthlonTN processor. Information on release date and pricing is currently unknown. We do know however, that each netbook will come in several colors. The P3010 will come in black or red, where as the P3110 is available in both these colors and silver.

311-osx

With many netbooks already able to load into OS X it comes as no surprise that the netbook/CULV device from HP can also run OS X. One hacker over at the Insanely Mac forums, has successfully loaded into the Apple operating system on their HP Mini 311. Both the high resolution of the device (1366 x 768) and graphics (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M) are supported in OS X along with the card reader, Ethernet, webcam and bluetooth. Unfortunately WiFi and sound don’t work at the moment. Neither does the sleep/resume function but, this has been a case with many Hackintosh netbooks.

HP-Mini-311-spore
Over at LaptopMag the folks benchmarked the HP Mini 311 with 3DMark06 along with trying Far Cry 2 on the ION powered netbook. Users asked for more specific tests to be done which relate to very popular games. They asked for the netbook to be tested with Spore, Call of Duty 4 and World of Warcraft. Call of Duty 4 has already been demoed on the HP Mini 311 which you can view here.

Laptop Mag listened to their readers and have videos of the netbook playing both World of Warcraft and Spore. Overall they were pleased with the results. They even made use of the 1080p HD Video out and connected it up to a Samsung HD TV and the results are very impressive. While doing their tests, they’ve also played the HD trailer of “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” back, which apart from some motion blur, had smooth playback. You can view their videos of the games and trailer tested here.

11.6-inch-display-netbook-gateway

Second tier LCD makers were hoping that demand for 11.6 inch displays would be high, giving them a chance to compete with Samsung, LG Display and AU Optronics, who currently dominate the notebook and netbook panel market. They hoped that demand for 11-13 inch displays would propel them into the competition but it seems the demand for these size displays is actually dropping. Many netbook manufacturers appear to prefer the displays to be 10 inches or smaller. CULV notebooks were also to make use of these display sizes but, it appears many will actually be using displays of 13.3 to 15 inches. The shipment of 11-13 inch displays is expected to drop significantly.

Inspiron11z

Dell has just announced the availability of more powerful options open for users who are buying their Inspiron Mini 11z netbook. If you would recall, this netbook replaced the Inspiron Mini 12 and comes with not so powerful features because Dell want to ship it out as fast as they can whenever orders arrive.

Now that the excitement over the Inspiron 11z has died down, Dell is now offering more powerful options for the said netbook. These include either a dual-core CULV Pentium SU4100 processor, up to 4GB RAM and a 320GB HDD. A 6-cell battery option to replace the 3-cell battery is also available for your liking.

Prices will of course vary and if you will ask us, it could go higher than $479. There is a ready configuration for the Inspiron 11Z with 250GB HDD and Vista Home Premium is availabel but it carries pretty much the standard specs.

Color options are also available which now include Alpine White, Ice blue, Jade Green, New Cherry Red, Passion Purple and Promise Pink.

Toshiba are to launch two new Satellite models. Both models fit more into the CULV category rather than netbook but, the T115 just makes it’s mark in the netbook world with an 11.6 inch display. Non netbook specs however, include up to 4GB of RAM, 500GB HDD along with an Intel Pentium or Celeron CPU. The T115 will launch in the US for $449. Moving onto the other model, it’s out of netbook range but, still provides more portability than a standard laptop with a 13.3 inch display. The 13 inch CULV will launch as the T135 in the US for $599. It’ll also be available in the UK as the T130. Like the T115, the T135 will come with either an Intel Pentium CPU or Celeron. Only a 250GB HDD will be included in this model, along with support for up to 3GB RAM.

Both Satellite models will be available from the 22nd of October both in the US and UK.
