Over at GadgetMix, one writer has reviewed a netbook car mount. The mount supports netbooks from 7 inches to 13, so will fit most netbooks even with an extended battery. It comes with a gooseneck bracket which can be adjusted. It features a strong suction cup which, was also put to the test. The reviewer used both an Asus Eee PC 701 and the Asus Eee PC 1000H which is “one of the heaviest netbooks ever made” on the mount with no problems. Perfect for those who want to use GPS on the netbook in the car.
It’s available from Ultimate-Netbook for £24.99. Using the code WEBMIX will get you a 10% discount. If you do grab the mount yourself, remember to use it safely.

While there’s many tips and tricks for optimizing your web browsing, one Firefox and netbook user, has created an extension for Firefox to allow you to optimize the look of your browser, to make the best of the viewing space. With the addon you can gain up to 60 pixels vertically, which is equal to about 10% of the viewing space on a netbook with a 10 inch display. You just need to download the addon Meerkat, install and restart the browser.

John over at Eee-PC.de has modded his Asus Eee PC 1000H. He’s already added more RAM and a touchscreen, along with upgrading the SSD. So what more was left? The keyboard. John has posted of how he’s taken the original keyboard out of the 1000H and replaced it with the keyboard found in the 1000HE Eee PC. He explains that some modifications are needed for the 1000HE keyboard, but it only took 5 minutes to put it together. You can follow his guide with photos of how you can also replace the keyboard on your Asus 1000H.

While we haven’t heard of any more netbooks featuring a high resolution like the Akoya Mini E1312, other netbooks are adopting the HDMI port feature. The F88 is no different and will also feature a HDMI port for HD display. The netbook also won’t include the standard Intel Atom processor, but rather a VIA Nano 1.6GHz CPU. Looks wise, it’s very similar to the Eee PC 1002HA.
Impressively the netbook can support up to 4GB of RAM and will feature a hard drive of between 60GB and 500GB. Other specs of the F88 netbook, which is likely to be renamed upon launch, include WiFi, VIA S3 Chrome 9 graphics, 10 inch display and a 1.3 megapixel camera. Other configurations include a higher resolution camera and the option of built in 3G and Bluetooth.

Just when we all thought that Asus is already done with the 1000 series, here comes another one bearing the model number 1000HV. But don’t get your hopes to high on possibly getting this Eee PC as reports say that it will only be available at the Italian online store Computer Discount.
Anyway if you’re based in Italy, you stand a chance at getting the 1000HV to possibly add to your Eee PC collection. As for stats you’ll get pretty much the same standard features as other 10-inch Eee PC netbooks, except for its ATI Radeon HD 3450 video card which has its own 256MB memory.
Other specs of the Eee PC 1000HV include – Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 160GB HD, 3 USB Port, Ethernet, audio in/out, SD(SDHC)/MMC card reader, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.0, and 1.3MP webcam.
The Eee PC 1000HV has a 6-cell battery capable of providing five hours of runtime.

While we are all talking about the rumored Eee PC 1005, which is supposed to be a variant of the upcoming Eee PC 1008HA, our netbook-loving friends and France are already way ahead of us. Asus has just officially launch the Eee PC 1005 together with the 10008HA in France. Interestingly, two variants of the Eee PC 1005 were launched – the 1005HA-H and 1005HA-M.
And the difference between the two Eee PCs? Well not much really except for the the CPU (Atom N270 for the 1005HA-M and Atom N280 for the 1005HA-H), Bluetooth for the 1005HA-H and 6-cell-2800mAH battery which gives up to 10.5 hours usage time. The 1005HA-M could only muster 8 hours of battery life with its 2200mAh battery.
Other than those, both variants are practically the same in terms of features and specs. And yes, both 1005HA models both have removable battery pack.
Price of the Eee PC 1005HA-M is at 299 Euro, while the 1005HA-H will retail for 349 Euro.

Chris of Netbook Reviews tipped us that he saw a product listing of the upcoming Eee PC 1008HA at Newegg.com. The product listing showed that the Eee PC 1008HA was supposed to retail for $429 at the online retailer. Also the Newegg was supposed to start shipping the Eee PC 1008HA on May 18. This was despite the fact that no US release date has been announced by Asus yet.
Interestingly, a moment after, Chris also found out the the link has been deactivated. The product page is still up, but a note was added that says, “This product is no longer available.”
Could this be a case of miscommunication on the part of Newegg and Asus? Is Asus planning to announce a new price for the Eee PC 1008HA? We’re inclined to believe that we will all find out soon.

For those looking into making their Eee PC 1000HE a dual-booting machine with both the pre-installed Windows XP and a Linux OS, here’s a comprehensive step-by-step guide on installing the Debian Linux. Debian Linux is another flavor of Linux and is touted as a universal operating system.
Frankly, the steps are tedious and you must take all the necessary precautions in case something went wrong in the installation process. Of course backing up the files on your Eee PC is an SOP.
Good thing the guide was carefully written by one of our readers (thanks Donald!) who tipped us via a comment on one of our Eee PC 1000HE post.
So if you’re ready to install the Debian Linux on your Eee PC 1000HE, read the tutorial here.
