Eee PC 1008HA Hits the FCC, as Amazon Starts Accepting Pre-Orders

Well, we all know the drill. Once a new product hits the FCC, we know that a release is to follow soon enough. The Eee PC 1008HA Sea Shell is certainly upon us all. We’ve already reported Newegg’s on and off pre-order product page. An just awhile ago, ZipZoomFly also put up a pre-order page for the Eee PC 1008HA with an expected shipping date on the 26th. So, what’s next? Of course the Eee PC 10008HA hitting the FCC for clearance purposes.

So, there you have it Asus’ next hottest Eee PC just arrived at the FCC site complete with manuals and photos of the dissected machine. Check it out if you wish, or better yet check out your favorite online electronics store as it will certainly be just a matter of time before you finally lay your hands on this slim and sexy Eee PC.

25 Eee PC Open Source Applications

The guys over at Datamation have compiled a list of 25 open source applications that will work on an Asus Eee PC netbook. The list focuses mainly on Linux based applications, for the original Eee PC 701, but some are compatible with Windows and some apps solely Windows. Within the 25 open source applications, 19 of the apps will work on Linux based Eee PCs, with 10 of the apps made for Windows. Those who have a hackintosh aren’t left out either with 6 of the apps working on OS X. The applications are primarily for the Asus Eee PC, but with some also working on other netbooks.

The apps are listed in 12 different categories over 3 pages, ranging from documentation and drivers through to operating systems such as Eeebuntu and other utilities.

Besides conceptual things like the dual-touchscreen notebook we showed you a while back, Asus is expected to showcase a few other netbook-related things such as a 512GB SSD-equipped Eee PC S121, the awesome Eee keyboard, and a so-called Eee PC 1008HA Shell. This new netbook is supposedly another ultra-thin model for the company’s Eee PC line, and will feature new industrial design and longer battery life than its predecessor. More on these as we get the info.

Asus Eee PC 1002HA announced for Spain

Though it’s been practically available forever on other markets, MSI Wind Spanish reports that the Asus Eee PC 1002HA has just been officially announced over there, and they are pegging the price at about 449 € or nearly $600 USD. This particular netbook won’t be different from its U.S. or Asia-Pacific counterparts, in that it will come with a 10.2-inch screen, Intel Atom processor, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, and a 5-hour 4200mAh battery. It will come with Windows XP out of the box, but one can easily upgrade the OS to either Vista or Windows 7 if needed. No word yet on which retail outlets it will be sold in, but it should be in leading computer stores in the next few days.

Eee PC is One Year Old Today!

The netbook that created netbooks and which spawned a huge market for netbooks worldwide – the Asus Eee PC, is one year old today.

October 16th 2007 saw the arrival of the first Eee PC and since then the brand has soared in sales and become the ‘role model’ for a plethora of netbooks from different manufacturers and a plethora of different models of the Eee PC from ASUS too.

The Eee PC is only a year old but it is still the oldest netbook on the block and with the number of different models of Eee PC that ASUS are producing, there is still a lot of life in the old/young netbook yet!

Eee PC is One Year Old Today!

Eee PC 901Go Unboxed and with 3G

The new Asus Eee PC 901Go has been unboxed and photographed by Mobile01 who have posted the pics up on their site.

The Eee PC 901Go (aka the Eee PC 901 HSUPA 3.5G) is basically a 901 model with the addition of a 3.5G HSUPA modem which is fitted inside the netbook to boost connectivity and a sim card slot for use with cellular phones, ideal for a quick, easy, hack free 3G connection to the net.

Asus have produced a netbook with mobile use in mind with the Eee PC 901Go and have perhaps ‘listened’ to their consumers by taking away the need to hack the Eee PC to connect using 3G.

Pricing isn’t clear yet but, it is presumed that if you purchase one of these netbooks on a contract for data services, the 901Go will be free or without contract Just Eee have posted that this Eee PC will cost 399 euros.

Here is a quick rundown of the specs in the 901Go with the unboxing images below:

Screen: 8.9 inches (1024×600 pixels)

CPU: Intel Atom 1.6GHz

Memory: 1GB RAM

Storage: 16GB SSD split into two parts – 8GB which houses the OS with room for storage and 8GB for storage. SD card slot.

Additional Features: 3.5G internal modem, webcam of 1.3mp, sim card slot, 3x USB slots.
