Asus is starting to offer Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates in the United States for the Eee Pad Slider according to a recent Twitter update from the Taiwanese company. This coincides with the Ice Cream Sandwich update pushed for the Samsung Galaxy Note.

As per usual, the Asus update is sent over the air (OTA), enabling the Eee Pad Slider to be at par with other Asus tablets which have already gotten Ice Cream Sandwich updates. Among these are the Asus Transformer Prime and the Asus Eee Pad Transformer.

The Android 4.0 update for the Eee Pad Slider is expected to fix several identified bugs on the device, including perhaps the faulty Youtube app. Android 4.0 will also likely enhance the performance of the device. The new apps, widgets, functionalities, and UI brought by the upgrade will also boost the productivity and enjoyment of the tablet’s users.

The Eee Pad Slider runs on a dual-core 1.2 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor with 1 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage capacity. It also comes with two cameras, a 5 MP at the back and a 1.3 MP at the front. A slide-out QWERTY keyboard facilitates input, while a microSD card slot is available in case there is a need for storage expansion.

We don’t hear a lot about netbooks these days, and yet the category is arguably what set the whole consumer electronics industry on the fast track to delivering smaller, more powerful, and longer lasting devices for mobile computing. The guys over at Notebook Check recently put one of the latest netbooks from Asus’s stable through a full review, and here’s what they’ve found. The Asus Eee PC 1011CX netbook may pack rather mediocre, yet standard netbook specs these days: 10.1-inch 1024×600 resolution LCD screen, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N2600 processor, 1GB of RAM (not upgradeable), and 320GB of HDD storage, but it’s still worth taking a look at because of the nearly 12-hour battery life. That thing about the RAM being soldered and not upgradeable may be a major drawback for some, but for most casual netbook users, this is actually quite adequate. At the same time, the Asus Eee PC 1011CX sits at a very attractive price point. Certainly much more attractive than most tablets and smartphones out in the market right now. Read the full Asus Eee PC 1011CX review via the link below.

Asus brings good news to Taiwanese techies as it now unfurls the Eee Pad MeMo 171 in Taiwan. The Asus Eee Pad MeMo 171 blew out in the market over a year ago but was held in reserve. The tablet is up for grabs at $585, which is equivalent to 17,500 New Taiwan Dollars.

The Pad manifests a 7-inch 1280 × 800p capacitive IPS screen and a dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon S3 CPU. Its memory may extend up to 16 GB or 32 GB of flash storage. Also, it swanks its atypical pair of cameras – an 8 MP rear and 1.2 MP front facing cameras.

It sports connectivity options as it comes with Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, and GPS. Other features include G-sensor, e-compass, light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. Furthermore, its runtime supports 4,400mAh as its battery sustains up to 8.5 hours of work.

Distinctively, a SIM card slot was added in the Taiwan version of the MeMo 171. This handy 14.2 oz tablet awaits a further upgrade of its operating system from the present Android 3.2 Honeycomb to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Are you a fan of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime and residing in or around France? Then be on the Tablette Store and say, “Je veux le bleu, s’il vous plaît.”

Throw out the old Asus Eee Pad Transformer name, since this is now considered officially the Asus Transformer Pad 300 Series– a particular Asus Transformer Pad TF300T model now up for pre-order in France.

The TF300T is a budget edition of the Transformer series. The Transformer Pad 300 is an updated version of the original Transformer, inclusive with docking keyboard and Tegra 3 processor.

This one’s clocked lower than the one of the Transformer Prime at 1 GHz. But it also has Ice Cream Sandwich and a 1280 × 800p resolution LCD screen. However, the tablet’s structure has changed to a strong plastic to prevent the Wi-Fi and signal issues of the Transformer Prime.

The version going on sale, however, is Wi-Fi- based only, and will soon have NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 instead of a Snapdragon 4 found on forthcoming LTE versions.

The 32 GB version is tentatively priced at €499 or about $650. The retailer says that the tablet will be available on May 15th and you can choose from the colors blue, red and white.

Nearly half a year since its official launch in the States, Kindle Touch is ready to hit Europe. The e-reader will be hitting the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy on April 27th. The UK version of the reading device will cost £109 for WiFi-only and £169 for 3G. The Kindle 3G connectivity will be powered by Vodafone in the UK and doesn’t need a contract because Amazon has factored the cost of using the network into its sale prices. Visit Amazon.co.uk for pre-orders.

Kindle Touch has 6″ diagonal electronic paper display, 600 x 800 pixel resolution at 167 ppi, 16-level grey scale. It has a dimension of 172 mm x 120 mm x 10.1 mm, weighs 220 grams, and holds up to 3,000 books.

The new UK models will be very similar to the US versions, but will feature some software tweaks and bug fixes before an official update hits in the near future. The new models also feature something Amazon invented which is called X-Ray. It allows users to see all the passages across a book that mention ideas, fictional characters, historical figures, places or topics of interest, as well as more detailed descriptions from Wikipedia and Shelfari.

Amazon, however, has still not confirmed whether it will be launching Kindle Fire, Amazon’s Android-powered tablet, in the UK.

The software version 6.3 includes a number of new features and improvements such as:

Users can now share passages from a book using a new “share” option.

Book Extras let you character descriptions, glossary terms, and other data without leaving a book.

Whispersync will now work with Personal Documents, letting you sync your last read page between devices.

Print Replicas of textbooks are now available.

There’s a new Reading View in the Amazon Silk web browser which presents everything in a single-column view.

Movie rental periods now begin when you start watching a video, not when you start downloading it to your device.

The Kindle Fire should now reconnect to WiFi more quickly when the screen is turned on.

Users must be wary that if you have a rooted Kindle Fire, the over-the-air update will remove your root access unless you’ve installed a custom ROM or taken other action to block updates.

For those who do not want to wait for the wireless update, you have the option to download the update straight from Amazon’s servers and use the “Update your Kindle” option under device settings to install it.

ASUS is introducing the new ASUS 1025C-MU 17-BK Eee PC Flare netbook. From the company that created the first netbooks, this mobile device sports a dual-core Intel Atom N2600 1.6GHz processor. It has 1GB of RAM and a 320GB Hard Disk with 5400RPM. Its graphics are courtesy of Intel GMA 3600. Windows 7 Starter is its operating system.

Power consumption with this combination of specifications is low, allowing the device to be keep running for many hours. A 6-cell Li-Ion (46 Whr) battery powers the device, offering as many as 12.5 hours of computing time. Much of the weight is because of the huge battery. For cooling purposes, the device is packed with a fan. As for the screen, the netbook sports a 10.1-inch diagonal screen and a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

Its interface is made of a combination of plastic and metal, with the palm rest and keyboard having a matte, fingerprint resistant finish. Its lid is also made of sturdy plastic. Integrated with this interface are three USB 2.0 ports, a microphone jack, a headphone jack, an Ethernet RJ-45 port, VGA port, HDMI-out, and an SD card reader.

The netbook comes in several color options: black, white, and pink. The netbook measures 10.3 x 7.0 0.82 to 1.35 inches and weighs 2.75 lbs.

ASUS hasn’t released its possible pricing or the date of its scheduled launch.

The Android x86 project has enabled Android Ice Cream Sandwich to run on the Asus Eee PC X101 netbook. The build, however, is not official, and neither Google nor Asus had commissioned the Android x86 project to test if it could work. Still, the bottom line is that it does, which could prompt others to run a similar build on non-tablet devices.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which is generally for tablet use, runs quite slowly on the netbook, however. The mouse and the touchpad substitute for touch screen gestures such as touching or dragging. Wi-Fi is also working well on the build as well as input devices such the Volume and Escape buttons.

There had also been adjustments made in the interface for users to navigate through the home screen with ease using the mouse and touchpad. All of these is good news for users of the Asus Eee PC X101 netbook, who might experience less issues with Ice Cream Sandwich features than those using other devices, who report freezing or crashing problems.

Nonetheless, it is still advisable for users to backup their content before attempting to download ICS for their netbooks as there will be no official support in case something goes wrong.

To date, the OS has only been tested on the Asus Eee PC X101 netbook, although it is likely that the build could also work on similar devices.
