Amazon is no longer on sale with regard to its first generation Kindle Fire tablets. Even valuable updates for them s no longer offered. However, a custom ROM for the Kindle Fire allowing the Google Android Jelly Bean 4.2 to operate has been released by the Developer Hashcode. To paraphrase, the old Kindle Fire could be turned into a Google Nexus 7 which is complete with support for HD video playback, the Google Play Store, etc.

As everything is, nothing is yet perfect. As of December 15, 2012, the deep sleep is still far from being fancy about. The battery of this Amazon tablet runs down faster than it should. There are also a few graphical glitches, and Swype-style gestures don’t work with the Android 4.2 keyboard yet.

Hashcode also has not given the microphone of the Kindle Fire to work just yet. Furthermore, the original Kindle Fire does not have a camera or hardware volume buttons. With these, a number of Android applications may work not on this tablet as it can on a real Nexus 7.

Nevertheless, hardware-accelerated video works already in your favor. Meaning, watching HD videos from YouTube or Netflix is able and available. Games could already be played and enjoyed. And you get other Android 4.2 features including support for widgets on the lock screen.

Kiev-based PocketBook has recently announced its plans to release an 8 inch eReader with a front-lit color E Ink display. This eReader is based on a slightly newer version of the Triton E-ink screen, which can display up to 4096 colors at a resolution of 800×600. This is a slightly higher density than previous color E-ink screens.

Color E-Ink displays work a lot like grayscale E-Ink screens. The screen is illuminated from ambient light instead of a backlight, which saves power. However, LCD, AMOLED, or other displays are still better than color E-Ink screens as colors tend to be washed out and screen refresh rates are low.

Other specs known as of now aside from WiFi are as follows:

The arrival of the latest in the series of Kindle eBook readers has been announced by Amazon. Named as the Kindle Paperwhite, the device was successfully launched in the United Kingdom following its course in the United States.

In pursuit with the US version of the Paperwhite, the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite comes in plenty. But, the part that is of the most that people would found so much interest on would be its possession of an illuminated display.

The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is a front-lit and not back-lit device. It has a super bright white light which offers a 25 percent better contrast and a 212ppi pixel density display. That is a gigantic whole of 62 per cent more pixels than what the previous can showcased.

The Paperwhite display is still touch-enabled with a capacitive screen. Additionally, the gadget works by way of a kind of flattened-out fibre optic source. It uses Nano-imprinting technology to keep the lighting as even as possible. Furthermore, huge battery life with up to eight weeks from a single charge is still guaranteed.

Frame wise, the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is 9.1mm in thick. No button is evinced by it. It is in black so to help show off that bright screen which still evidently has the X-Ray feature from the Kindle Touch.

For £109, the new Kindle Paperwhite can be purchased and enjoyed, whereas, the Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi + 3G is rated at £169. Both can be availed for pre-order. Shipping is commenced by the 25th of October. Pre-orders can be made at: www.amazon.co.uk/kindlepaperwhite.

When it was released, the Kindle Fire, which was a 7-inch device priced at $200 and targeted at consumers looking for budget slates, enjoyed massive success.

Now, the new tablet is expected to have a larger screen measuring 8.9 inches diagonally. Unfortunately, the retail giant seems to prefer to keep its specifications in secret, so interested consumers still have no idea what to look forward to with the next Kindle Fire.

In contrast with the original Kindle Fire which went on sale in November, however, this next-generation tablet is expected to debut ahead of the holiday season, which is often a very lucrative time for gadget sellers.

Alongside the new Kindle Fire, Amazon will also likely release a new Kindle e-Reader with improved specifications. The upcoming Kindle e-Reader is rumored to have a front light that would facilitate reading in dark conditions. Higher-priced models of this e-Reader will also likely have Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity capabilities.

The new Kindle e-Reader will possibly be released ahead of the Kindle Fire, the expected time being sometime during July this year.

So if ever you have been used to reading with a Kindle Touch, then you might consider updating it to Version 5.1.0 because new features just being added.

Overall, Kindle Touch is revamped into Kindle Format 8 for formatting and layout improvements easier which adds the feature landscape mode allowing you to alternately shift either way, landscape or portrait upon reading your favorite e-books.

A better and more language support come second according to your preference: English (US and UK), German, Spanish Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and French. Speaking of language, better translation is as well included. With just a tap on the screen or on the particular word, you can easily translate to any type of language powered by Bing translator.

But the most likable feature could be the Read-to-Me with Text-to-Speech update letting Kindle Touch read the words out loud for you. Aside from the Wi-Fi connectivity, it’s now with WPS and a selection of WPA2 Enterprise networks for additional security.

A whole new Kindle Touch as one would agree.

The newest update comes to those e-readers who wait; since the Nook Simple Touch scraps off its plainness today.

Nook Simple Touch is an Android power-driven device with an 800 x 600-pixel E Ink touchscreen. It uses E ink tech with a system of infrared beams slightly above its screen surface allowing the pages to turn in just 450 milliseconds. Also, it offers a great variety of reading choices with its LendMe feature allowing users to share books with one another.

This, however, depends on licensing by the book’s publisher. It guarantees undisrupted reading as it comes ad-free. Moreover, its battery life extends reading for up to 2 months based on 1 hour of reading on a daily basis. For its connectivity options, the e-reader has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n functionality and a USB port for charging and linking on a PC.

Alongside all the superb features this device offers the readers, it carries with it a negligible weakness. According to the grapevine, Barnes and Noble think it’s about time to complicate their very own Nook Simple Touch.

A front-mounted LED is to be integrated to light up the black and white E ink screen during hours of darkness -Glowlight. Nonetheless, this integration shall not affect the paper-like quality of the device.

However, it should be noted that these glowlights may possibly affect the $99 Nook e-reader’s current battery life.

A new Amazon Kindle is expected to have a front-lit E-ink screen that will enable readers to read off a screen with dim light settings.

This next-generation Kindle is an expansion to Amazon’s growing number of options for fans of mobile reading devices. Among these are the Kindle Fire with its full-color screen, the Kindle Keyboard that facilitates typing input, the Kindle Touch which combines a touchscreen with E-ink technology, and the Kindle DX for users who prefer a large 9.7-inch display.

The new Kindle is an alternative to those who want a longer battery life than the ten hours or less that the Kindle Fire offers.

Its E-ink technology, which will be less bright than a backlit LCD screen. However, it will still have a soft bluish-white sort of glow, will also enable readers to use the device comfortably in bright sunlight or under a lamp. A brightness control, moreover, allows users to control the level of brightness according to their preference.

The new Kindle will also likely feature a slightly different interface than the previous models. The size and thickness, however, will possibly be the same as the previous Kindle.

Following the success of their earlier products, Amazon seems keen on continuing its leadership in portable devices.

Users of the Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet who are craving for multi-touch gesture support are in for a treat.

The device, which can do fast screen refreshes and video playback, had not been able to support multi-touch gesture detection until recently. This is despite the fact that it has the same screen technology as the Amazon Kindle Touch and the Sony Reader, which offer the same support.

Now, thanks to a hack provided by a XDA forums members, users of the tablet and e-reader hybrid will now be able to enjoy the feature. The instructions require primarily a hacked Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet. However, the subsequent instructions are as easy to install as an update.

Users have to create a backup, change kernel, change the uImage with a provided one, add a permission node, then reboot. Developers have to edit the kernel and add the permission node by replacing zforce.c with two changes for reporting touch information and registration of device capability, compiling, and adding a permission node.

As always, however, those who wish to attempt the hack must know that should anything go wrong with the process, support would be difficult to get and may void some warranties on the device. As such, this hack is not recommended especially for those who are inexperienced.

The Digital Reader gave techy geniuses a hint that Barnes & Noble is doing an added NOOK that something related to audio.

All we have is a blank product page that contains the information NOOK Audio OE250. Nate, owner of The Digital Reader, also mentioned that B & N recently filed for a trademark on the term.

The term NOOK is used by B & N for its products such as the Ink eBook readers, the NOOK Color and the NOOK Tablet. The last product is the newest of them all, 7-inch in size and can be used if you love to read books, play some good music, watch movies or even play games.

If the so –called NOOK audio is for the NOOK Simple Touch eReader, then it would be another eReader having unusual audio features. Otherwise, the NOOK Audio could be some sort of eReader that could play audio books though.
