Well, here’s a nice little surprise from Sharp. The electronics giant is all set to release their new mobile internet device, called the SH-10B, that uses Android as the operating system. Featuring a crisp, high-resolution 5-inch screen, it also boasts two digital cameras. One of the cameras is located outside and has 5.3 MP, while the other one is 4.3MP and can be seen when the clamshell is opened. The other great feature is that the SH-10B is packed with several wireless radio options. It has access to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, HSDPA/HSUPA, GPS/A-GPS and a digital TV tuner, you name it, it has it. The only downside is the low natural storage of 3.4 GB. You can upgrade that though with an SD card.

The release date for the SH-10B is July 23 in Japan, though no price has been announced.

With the release of the Viliv N5, everyone thought that it was going to be top of the heap in MID market for awhile. Well, it seems tha UMID, Viliv’s competitior, isn’t taking that lying down. The company has released a special edition of its UMID BZ mobile internet device and it is packing some serious power.

The SE’s CPU is a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor – easily trumping the N5′s Z520 1.3 processor. It also has a gig of RAM for memory. Some other things that it beats the N5 on is access to WiFi and a VGA-out port. However it only has 32gigs of SSD storage and still runs on Windows XP, although it does support Windows 7 drivers.

Online Korean retailer are already selling it for the equivalent of $574, beating out Viliv’s 600 to 700 dollar price poinr for its N5. Unfortunately, we don’t know when it will hit American or European shores.

Here’s a full spec list for those who want to have a full comparison with the N5.

But don’t let its size fool you. The NanoNote is actually running on Linux OS, has a 336MHz XBurst JZ4720 CPU 32MB of RAM, 2GB of Flash storage and microSD card slot.

Talk about being “ultra-compact” eh? But honestly, I really could think of a better use for this device and reason to get it instead of an iPod or other smartphone. But if you’re into this kind of thing, well you can grab the Qi NanoNote for $99.

For that price you’d get the following specs:

CPU: 336MHz Xburst Jz4720 (MIPS compatible)

RAM: 32MB

Storage: 2GB flash storage

Display: 3″ color 320 x 240 TFT display

Expansion: microSD card slot, Mini-USB port

Other: mic, speaker, headphone jack

Dimensions: 99 x 75 x 17.5

Weight:126

Battery: 850mAh Li-ION

A sleek new Android-powered MID will be officially launched during this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, and it comes from a little-known Korean company called Inbrics. It’s called the M1 Android MID, and it packs the power of a MID in the form factor of a proper smartphone. You could throw it in a box full of Nokia N97s and Motorola DROIDs and will be hard-pressed to tell the difference in device classification.

The Inbrics Android MID features a 3.7″ AMOLED touchscreen display, 800MHz ARM Cortex A8-based Samsung processor, sliding QWERTY keypad, 3MP camera, front-facing VGA webcam, 16GB internal storage, microSD support, GPS, WiFi, and 3G or WiMAX connectivity. What version of Android it will run at retail is still not determined, for its official release date hasn’t been pinpointed yet. But expect it to become available either late this year or early next year.

Ran out of things to do with your literally pint-sized UMID M1? You might want to take a look at this new mod which a user over at the Pocketables forum has come up with. It involves opening up the case of the UMID M1, rearranging a few wires and sacrificing the built-in webcam as well as the on/off switch. This will undoubtedly void your warranty but what you will get out of this is a full-sized USB port–something that will be very useful with USB flash drives and other low-power USB devices. Check out the details of this USB port mod over at the Pocketables forum.

Apple’s iPad. Everyone seems to be talking about it. But does anyone actually want it? A survey conducted by Retrevo shows us that 3% of their respondents have been waiting and wanting to buy Apple’s iPad even before the official announcement took place. The same survey tells us that 26% of respondents have heard about the upcoming iPad but readily admit that they don’t want to buy one. Now, the official announcement has come and gone, and a new survey was conducted by Retrevo. The results? The number of those who want to buy the iPad have risen from a measly 3% to 9%. But the real shocker comes in the number of people who know about the iPad but don’t want to buy it. From 26%, it has risen to a whopping 52% now, after Apple’s official unveiling. This tells us that more people know about the iPad now (and that advertising works), but even more don’t want to buy it. Numbers don’t lie. See the full survey breakdown for yourself via the link below.

The company is now working with the manufacture to develop a smaller version of the 891A-NN. The sized down version, 701A-NN, will feature a 7 inch display instead but, still supporting multi touch. The screen resolution of the 7 inch model will be 800×480. Most specs will remain the same, including the use of Windows 7 as the operating system. However the RAM size is reduced to 1GB, typical of most netbooks.

Their website lists it as coming soon for now but, Sinchun Electronic, who produce both models, from their own website, have the 7 inch model as well as a 5 inch model listed along side the 891A-NN. None of the products have a price listed but, hopefully, the price of the 7″ model, will be more reasonable priced, than it’s expensive big brother, which will retail for $1199.

Like netbooks, there seems to be plenty of UMPCs and MIDs to go around these days. And big-name PC manufacturers aren’t the only ones who contribute. Take this new 5.6-inch UMPC called the Shenzen HT560. Judging by its short list of specs, one can’t be faulted for thinking of it as ancient.

It’s got a 1GHz Via C7 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 16GB SSD, two USB 2.0 ports, an on-board 1.3MP camera, and its screen has a resolution of 800×480. It comes with a slew of wireless connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS which will make it come off as modern, but it uses an ancient OS by comparison–Windows XP.

This will probably be quite wallet-friendly considering what you’re going to get, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be easy to get one outside of China. To make matters worse, a minimum order of 10 is required for every purchase. Oh well.
