The same day that the Asus Eee PC 900 appears on most U.S. retail stores is its product launch in Manila, Philippines. None other than two representatives from Asustek came all the way from Taiwan to launch the Eee PC 900 before the Filipino press people, bloggers and enthusiasts. The Eee PC 900 would sell for almost the same $549.99 equivalent to Philippine peso. Unfortunately, when I asked the Asustek representative if they have the black version, he said that Asustek is releasing the white version first. But there is certainly the black ones, as I noticed in their press kit. I’m guessing that they would deplete their stock of the white Eee PC 900 first before releasing the black ones. As for other colors, Asustek doesn’t seem keen on releasing other funky colors similar to the colors of the Eee PC 700. And yes, the Eee PC 900 would come with the 4400mAh battery, which the Asustek representative said would last for a good 3.5 hours. We’ll have to confirm that from actual users though. Here are a couple of shots of the press launch, as well as some shots comparing the Eee PC 900 with the 701. Just click on the thumbnail for a larger view.

Frontier has created a new ultra-portable PC notebook, the FRLN.

This interesting new notebook sports a 12″ LCD screen, yet weighs 1.25kg, less than the Macbook Air. The screen is powered with LEDs, providing a longer battery life. The FRLN also measures in thinner than the Macbook Air. But the biggest surprise? The FRLN is designed to be rugged, with a waterproof keyboard, the ability to handle up to 240lbs of pressure, and handle a drop from nearly 80cm. Can the Macbook Air do that? Nope.

Unfortunately, this machine is not as powerful as the Macbook Air, so if you’re looking for a heavy duty machine for harsh cpu intensive work. The machine hosts an Intel A110 CPU, not exactly a wise choice for performance. The machine will come standard with an 80GB hard drive, A/B/G WiFi, and 1GB RAM.
