HP’s recent event in Shanghai saw not only the introduction of their latest notebook offerings (including their flagship line of Ultrabooks), but also the announcement of HP’s plans to re-enter the tablet device market. This time, though, instead of webOS, HP is going to work with Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 tablet OS instead.

HP CEO Meg Whitman knows that the growth is in the tablet segment this year, so it’s obviously a good move to try and wrestle with the current top names in the market for a chance to get a slice of the pie. No information has been revealed about HP’s upcoming Windows 8 tablet offerings yet, but it will likely take design cues from the discontinued HP Touchpad, with the added bonus of having access to various cloud-based features and services.

With yesterday’s official unveiling of HP’s latest notebook offerings, it’s obvious that the company is not about to get left behind by the competition especially in the Ultrabook department. But does HP have any plans at all for the tablet space?

HP has been sitting on Palm assets for the longest time now and it seems like they either have no plans to further develop webOS at all or they simply have no idea how to. But now it appears that HP is actually taking steps to assert their position in the tablet market by coming up with a new webOS-powered competitor to the iPad and many of today’s most popular Android tablet offerings.

Apparently, HP is currently hiring developers that are to work on webOS, and it is highly likely that we will hear about a new webOS device coming out before the end of this year, if things go according to HP’s plan of course. There are no known webOS-powered devices in the works from HP at the moment, but it is known that the company has been testing Windows 8 since a short time after it was first announced by Microsoft.

Right now, there are a dozen job posting on HP’s own career web site. Will these people finally form the team that will bring us the webOS powerhouse fit to topple the iPad? Watch out for further updates on the subject in the next few weeks.

HP is now on a race of putting up a bunch of ultrabooks purposely made for different users. Today, the company’s product would charm the entrepreneurs, since it’ll be giving the HP’s first business-class ultra portable notebook PC named as EliteBook Folio.

The laptop is a 14-incher unit with a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution display. It weighs about 3.6 lbs and 0.75-inch thick– a bit lighter than the HP Envy 14 or 15 models, but quite heavier than the HP Envy SpectreXT notebook.

The EliteBook Folio outfits unordinary feature of typical ultrabooks through its user replaceable battery. The notebook PC equips with a backlit keyboard and a 4-cell, 52Whr battery that’s removable. Also it offers a 6-cell, 60Whr battery piece which can last up to 20 hours of continuous usage.

Moreover, this slim notebook comes with a maximum 16 GB of RAM, up to 500 GB of internal storage, 7200RPM hard drive and 256 GB solid state cache. It also brings the second gen Intel core processors and will just get Ivy Bridge updates later this year.

The HP ultrabook supports a DisplayPort, a Smart Card reader, three USB 3.0 ports, VGA and Ethernet outputs as well as a fingerprint scanner. Also, the Elitebook Folio has sustained TPM security for full volume encryption.

Sadly, releasing date wasn’t able to announced, yet it is expected that the HP ultrabook will be priced for $1149 and up.

The upcoming HP 8 tablet will have Windows 8 Pro software onboard, as opposed to WebOS or Android. Targeted at business and professional consumers, this new tablet is similar to the previously-released HP Slate 500 but will likely be more user-friendly because of the features of the newest iteration of the Windows Operating System.

It has been leaked that the new tablet will run on an x86 processor, possibly making it one of the first HP devices running on the x86. It will also have a 10.1-inch screen and a thickness of only 9.2 mm, which makes it thinner than the newest iPad. It also provides 8 up to 10 hours of battery life and weighs only 1.5 lbs. or about 0.68 kg.

The slate as well features both digital pen and multi-touch input. There is an outdoor viewing option and enterprise-level docking which both facilitate integration and use too. Among its security features are the HP ProtectTools software, an embedded security device, and Computrace.

The target release date and pricing information of the device, however, are still unavailable as well as its other hardware and software specifications. It is likely, though, that the HP Slate 8 will hit the market around October this year following the release of Windows 8.

Guess which brand is leaking its very new laptop series online? None other but HP’s Pavilion laptop series in which several weeks ago, those have already been spotted and leaked online particularly, their newest models HP Pavilion dv6 and dv7.

It has been several weeks already as mentioned earlier since its leaked new series. Good thing, CNET stated a release date of “next week” which now lessens the agony of those seeking for new laptops and eyeing for these leaked HP Pavilion series.

However, a commotion regarding its processors is obviously in the air since dv6 and dv7 are first known to be running in Intel’s Ivy Bridge. But what CNET has just revealed is Intel’s Panther Point chipset with the Sandy Bridge processors instead. Delays have been one of the reasons for the quirk.

But does this also mean for possibilities of another changes again days before the said date of release? In that case, it’s always better to wait than buying that could give regrets just because of some minor changes. Just give some high hopes that it the release date would not be one of the changes.

Have you heard of the HP TouchPad Go? If not, then that is no surprise. It is a 7-inch tablet that was never released in the market. When HP decided to kill off webOS, the operating system that runs the HP Touchpad Go and its predecessor, the HP TouchPad 10, everything just went down the drain for the TouchPads.

Even the HP TouchPad 10 wasn’t really a hit so HP decided to lower down the price from $499 to $99. It was only then that people started noticing and buying because it became the second cheapest tablet in the market.

However, even if the HP TouchPad GO was never released, people from webOS Nation got one unit last December and decided to dissect it. Surprisingly, come October, the dissected unit was shown on the FCC website.

Apparently, the discretion request on the FCC photos rose today, due to some shiny new photos of the slate, including pictures of its insides.

The IPS display of the HP Touchpad Go is 1024 x 768 pixels. It sports a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor with front-facing and rear cameras. The front cam is 1.3MP while the rear cam is 5MP.

The unit has 1 GB of RAM and it can store 16 GB to 32 GB of photos, videos, games, apps and other more. Connectivity is possible through Wi-Fi, GPS and integrated Bluetooth as well.

If you consider yourself one of the many people who are currently longing for your very own Windows 8 tablet PC (a proper one, that is), then you want to keep your eyes peeled for what’s going to happen by September-October of this year. Because according to a report on the Chinese site DigiTimes, that is when companies like Asus, Acer, Samsung, Lenovo, and HP can be expected to launch their x86-based Windows 8 tablet PCs in the market. What exactly are they waiting for? Possibly perfection, but it’s also said that these same companies, along with several others like Samsung, Toshiba, and Sony, have plans to launch Windows 8 on ARM (WoA) offerings as well. We won’t be seeing any official releases for devices of that kind until early 2013, though. This is all according to the same unnamed source cited by DigiTimes in its report. The only thing that’s really sure at the moment is that you will still have time to save up for these babies for when they actually do get released in the market. Keep it here for updates.
