HTC is already preparing a quad core phone for MWC as well as its thinnest phone and brand new tablet. That slate is around 9mm thick and now the branding it gets is HTC Vertex. This model was formerly called HTC Quattro and it should be a quad core tablet.

HTC Vertex is rumored to run on Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 10.1 inch 1280 x 768 pixel display. The device is pre-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC Sense 4.0 on top. Beats Audio is also included for excellent sound quality. The device only gets a 2MP camera, though they could have done better despite its 9mm thickness.

Vertex is supposed to have a 1.3MP front shooter, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and speakers that take advantage of that Beats Audio tech as well. The HTC Scribe should also be used on this device as well as a Dropbox account to be bundled.

There has been a rumor floating around that the HTC Flyer may get an ICS update.

Stylus support in the HTC Flyer is limited. It can only use the stylus in certain apps not the entire system. In short, it does replace your fingers. HTC did not implement palm rejection. Samsung supports the S-Pen system wide on its Galaxy Note. If the HTC Flyer could nab an ICS update, stylus support could change.

When Ice Cream Sandwich was revealed by Google, it is stated that the OS would have system-wide stylus support built-in:

Android 4.0 includes full support for stylus input events, including tilt and distance axes, pressure, and related motion event properties. To help applications distinguish motion events from different sources, the platform adds distinct tool types for stylus, finger, mouse, and eraser. For improved input from multi-button pointing devices, the platform now provides distinct primary, secondary, and tertiary buttons, as well as back and forward buttons. Hover-enter and hover-exit events are also added, for improved navigation and accessibility. Developers can build on these new input features to add powerful interactions to their apps, such as precise drawing and gesturing, handwriting and shape recognition, improved mouse input, and others.

So how did this information leaked out? Supposedly a customer called HTC customer service after he/she was unhappy with the Gingerbread UI HTC implemented. The customer service rep replied that there options that the customer could follow like downgrading to Gingerbread by sending the HTC back to them or wait up for the ICS update this quarter of the year.

So what’s the deal with the Flyer and ICS? Well, supposedly a customer unhappy with the changes to the UI from Gingerbread, which the Flyer originally shipped with, to Honeycomb complained to HTC customer service. The customer service rep said that the customer could either send the Flyer in to HTC so they could downgrade it to Gingerbread, or the customer could wait for the ICS update slated for sometime in Q1 this year.

HTC did not announce anything yet so better take this news with a grain of salt.

There’ll also be a 16GB internal storage, microSD card slot and WiFi support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. It will also include Beats Audio support with twin speakers and microphones. The bad part is the camera has only 2 megapixel resolution (but is still capable of 1080 HD video recording) and a 720p front-facing camera. This device is supposedly less than 9mm thick and has Bluetooth 4.0.

Software has access to HTC Watch, the company’s movie rental service. There’ll also be a bundle Dropbox account. The Quattro name is not final since it’s just actually a codename.

According to Digitimes, which in turn got the report from Chinese-language Commercial Times, HTC plans to unveil a quad-core tablet in Mobile World Congress 2012 that’s scheduled to happen in February. Along with this powerful new device, the mobile manufacturer stalwart is said to also reveal two new Android smartphones, one of which will also be powered by a quad-core processor.

It looks like this is going to be next year’s standard for tablet processors. First there was the curtain-raising last October for the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. Then reports came out about a 10.1-inch tablet from Lenovo which may run on Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of Android. These two slates along with HTC’s are all sporting Nvidia’s new Tegra 3 quad-core processor.

Dual-cores seemed adequate enough for watching streaming movies. Perhaps tablets are expanding from the media/entertainment category into the work/production realm. The line between PC and tablet has just gotten that much blurry.

If you are looking for a solid aluminum 7-inch Android tablet that runs Honeycomb, then this must be your lucky day because the first Honeycomb RUU has been leaked out.

The HTC Flyer is a 7 inch tablet with a 1024 x 600 pixel display. It has a capacitive touch panel and an optional digital pen for writing or drawing. This tablet is one of the best built 7 inch tablets on the market and it’s the first to come with HTC Sense software running on top of Android. However, while other known Android tablets released this year were shipped with Android 3.0 Honeycomb or newer, the HTC Flyer is initially shipped with Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread — a version of the operating system designed for phones, not tablets.

Reports say that HTC wanted to spend more time with Honeycomb in order to customize its Sense software to play nicely with the tablet OS. But now we know that HTC will soon launch Jetstream, a 10 inch tablet that will come with Honeycomb and Sense. The Honeycomb update are reportedly be eventually for the Flyer as well.

That’s $35 per month additional cost for a 3GB plan. There’s a HTC Scribe digital pen as freebie. Still, the price is ridiculous and it does cost a whooping $849 for outright purchase. This tablet will be available on the 4th of September. This is the first 4G LTE / HSPA tablet for AT&T but the price is not just right.

HTC maybe having a bit of legal trouble right now, but they’re still a company in the business of making money. This means it’s business as usual – and here’s a bit of good news for them: the Puccini Tablet has been approved by the FCC!

Last seen in May, this new HTC product has passed FCC jurisdiction and seems to be well on its way to the AT&T network. Supposed to be packing Android Honeycomb as its OS, the FCC has confirmed that it has the usual GSM 850, 1900MHz frequencies and 3G WCDMA 850 and 1900MHz bands for connectivity. The real feature that everyone’s looking forward to is the slate’s LTE radios. It’s going to have both AWS 4 and 17 bands on board, so yeah, this baby will handle LTE.

Additional stuff we can infer from the diagram are a SIM card slot, a 10-inch size, and dual-speakers. No confirmation for a camera yet, though. Let’s see when it hits the stores soon.

With the HTC Flyer in stores, it seems HTC is just going to keep on chugging onwards. Several rumors are being heard that the manufacturing company is planning for a 10-inch tablet code-named Puccini. Some sources purport that HTC already has the resources in place to start mass production for this secret tablet next month. This is supposed to be backed up bu claims from “supply chain” resources – though these rumors will have to be taken with a grain of salt.

The Puccini will supposedly feature Android Honeycomb, and pack a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm MSM8660 CPU, and a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel capacitive touchscreen display. And will supposedly feature stylus support similar to the HTC Flyer.
