MSI first gained recognition for a great build quality on the original MSI Wind. While this has failed to innovate and just use cheaper materials instead, many are wondering if the latest model, the MSI Wind U180, made the difference from the others.

The 10.1-inch device ships with a 1,024 x 600 native screen resolution. It runs on Intel dual-core Atom N2800 the with clock speed of 1.86GHz. The chip is supported by 1GB of memory and has a 320GB hard drive for storage.

Additional features include GMA 3650 integrated graphics, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, an Ethernet port as well as a 0.3 megapixel webcam. Buyers will also get a token chiclet keyboard, a built-in SD/MMC card reader, a six-cell battery and Windows 7 Starter as the operating system of choice.

The MSI Wind U180 is now available for pre-order in Germany.  With the specs mentioned above, it comes at the price of €349(around $451). Some may have second-thoughts on this since the MSI Wind netbooks haven’t changed for 3 years.

Micro-Star International  has completed the preparations for the shipping of the MSI Wind U180 Cedar Trail netbook. This goes with the collection of entry-level mobile personal computers.

There was no announcement or any actual effort to spread the word about this  device. However, with how sharply the popularity of netbooks has declined recently, this is possible. There is also the matter of MSI not having put any effort into changing much of the Wind series of netbooks, design-wise that is.

The new model is powered by Intel Atom N2800 dual-core CPU with a clock speed of 1.86 GHz. Its video capabilities are provided GMA (graphics media accelerator) 3650. Storage is 350 GB HDD, while a built-in SD/MMC card reader allows for interfacing with cards from photo cameras, phones, etc.

Other specifications include an Ethernet port, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, a 0.3 megapixel webcam and a 10.1-inch LCD with native resolution is 1,024 x 600 pixels. As for software, the MSI Wind W180 netbook is loaded with Microsoft’s Windows 7 Starter.

The price is of 349 Euro, which more or less translates into $451. Whether or not this sum is worth it for something that soon enough won’t have over Ultrabooks is for buyers to figure out. Everyone should just try and remember that even the first-generation Ultrabooks have gone down in price.

It would be bold to think that netbooks would survive? Of course, the growing trend and plummeting prices of tablet PCs and then the launch of Intel’s Ultrabook bandwagon, nothing more would have discontinued the netbook form factor. Well, not so fast, Cedar Trail has suddenly renewed attention on the fading teeny-sized notebooks, for another extra generation at least. One of the dynamic forces in the netbook class, MSI – just released its new Wind U180 for 2012.

Thoroughly built by MSI for 2012, “The Wind U180, brings a novel zenith in PC technology, providing both performance and sensational pleasing appearances,” MSI alleges. “It sports a minimalist dark, creamish white or violet, and in less that an inch thin, it tips the scales at about 1kg, and is covered in MSI’s own striking IMR color film stamp to avert scratches and stains.”

Intel’s Cedar Trail platform doesn’t only pleases the eye, but it steals the show as well. The Wind U180 sports either an Intel Atom N2600 (1.6GHz) or N2800 (1.86GHz)  CPU nestled into Intel’s NM10 chipset running GMA 3650 graphics inbuilt, memory of up to 2GB of DDR3-800/1066MHz, SATA hard drive 250GB/320GB 2.5-inch, (2-in-1)memory card reader, a duo of an HDMI port, USB 2.0 ports, Bluetooth 3.0+HS, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, 0.3MP webcam, HD audio, 6-cell battery, and of course, Windows 7 Starter operating system.

MSI’s flagship unit in the netbook market is the MSI Wind, but since 2008, they haven’t innovated their line. The MSI Wind U180 doesn’t have anything to offer from their previous netbook iterations other than the marginal processor speed bump.

This 10.1″ netbook runs on a 1.86 GHz Intel Atom N2800 Cedar Trail processor and GMA 3650 graphics with support 1080p HD video. The HDMI port is available but you have to look for the model that has it.

The Wind U180 is armed with 1GB RAM, 320GB Hard Drive, 0.3MP webcam, and Windows 7 Starter and a measly 1024×600 display. This netbook is only available in Germany for 350 Euros.

The Windpad now has a Cedar Trail version, the MSI Windpad 120W. Its twin brother the Windpad U110W is an AMD-Fusion device. In IDF, the Windpad 120W used the Intel Atom N2600 with 32nm CedarView-M with dual-core, it has 2 thread s per core and 1.66Ghz clockrate. The PowerVR SGX545 graphics operates at 4000Mhz and forms part of the GMA graphics unit. The TDP of this one is 3.5W and is coupled with a communications chip, the NM10, that requires 1.5W. The device also comes with 2 GB of RAM. Screen resolution 1280×800.

The 3D graphics test performed magnificently. The N2800 clocked at 650MHz is twice the performance of the previous generation Pine Trail. The N2600 is clocked lower, though.

Nettops haven’t been getting enough attention lately, but they should be. These light-weight low-power mini-desktops are getting pretty impressive.

For example, MSi has just bucked the trend of using Intel Atom CPUs in their latest offering in the Wind Box line. Called the MSI Wind Box DC100, it packs a 1.6 GHz AMD E-350 dual core processor. That’s double the power than an Atom can provide. The nettop also comes  with Radeon HD 6310 graphics, 2GB of DDR RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. Additional specs are 6 USB ports and VGA and HDMI output. All this for an expected price of $200.

Of course, there’s no monitor or keyboard included – this is a nettop after all and they only come as CPUs. But with the sleek design factor and light weight, it is an attractive desktop alternative.

No word on a release date yet – and it’s still up in the air whether it will come to the market.

We first heard of the Wind U270 last December, but MSI’s been secretive of what’s under the hood for awhile. Well, wonder no more. They’ve just released a press release of what exactly you’ll be getting if you pick this baby up

Boasting a 12-inch display, it has a 1.6 GHz AMD Zacate E-350 dual core CPU and AMD’s Radeon HD 6310 graphics card. You can upgrade it up to 8GB of DDR3 memory and up to 320GB of disk space. Running on Windows 7 Home Premium, it also has several additional features: a 720p webcam, 2 USB 2.0 ports and 1 USB 3.0 port, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 for connectivity and the now ubiquitous HDMI output. The Wind U270 also features Easy Face software that lets you login to Windows or to some web sites by just pointing your face at the camera.

No launch dates or price tags yet – but expect to learn of them soon.

If Amazon is keeping you at bay on when it will have the EEE Slate on stock, you might want to check out the site Simply Electronics instead. Why? Because the online retailer is currently selling an alternative to the Eee Slate – the MSI WindPad 100W. Yes, you guess it right, this is a Windows 7 tablet offering from MSI and is equally powerful as the Eee Slate.

If you have the money to spare – make that around $710 money to spare, hurry up and order the MSI WindPad. Last time we checked there are only 5 units left of this tablets. Either Simply Electronics have received many orders or the units delivered were very few only.

So, if I were you, I’ll visit Simply Eletronics now.

Well, who says that MSI is just going to give up on its Wind netbook product series? No way, as the company just presented its new MSI Wind U270 netbook. Take note people – it is a netbook not a tablet. What’s good to know about this new Wind netbook is the unusual fact that it will be running on AMD platform. To be exact, it is the AMD 1.6GHz Zacate Processor.

Additionally, said MSI Wind netbook will also feature – an 11.6-inch screen display in glossy finish and 1366×768 resolution, 4GB of RAM, 320GB HDD, VGA output, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0 port, Kensington lock port, 4-in-1 card reader, and ethernet jack.

Unfortunately, MSI is not yet ready to disclose availability and pricing of this netbook. But the good news is – you can now feast your eyes on the video demo of the said netbook courtesy of netbooknews.

We’ve seen netbooks “blinged” up before and now it’s MSI’s turn to glitz up one of their netbooks. Internally the MSI Wind N135DX isn’t much different from other Wind U135 netbook offerings from the company. You get an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a 10 inch screen with a standard netbook resolution of 1024×600. Other specs are currently unknown but, will most likely come with Windows 7 Starter and a 160-250GB hard drive.

The outside of the Wind U135DX however is different to previous MSI Wind netbooks we’ve seen before. The lid of the netbook comes covered in, as the name of the netbook suggests, Swarovski crystals. Pricing currently isn’t known but, we do know that the netbook will become available within Europe shortly.
