Acer launched its latest mini-desktop called the Revo 70. Like the company’s existing nettops, the Revo 70 isn’t much larger than a DVD drive, though it doesn’t really have one. However, this little computer share some features of a reasonably fine ultraportable notebook. The R70 measures 8.26″ x 8.26″ x 2.13″ and weighs just 2.2 pounds.

The Acer Revo 70 is operated by a 1.65 GHz AMD E-450 dual core processor, paired together with Radeon HD 6320 graphics, 2GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. The nettop runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Additional features include 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Ethernet, HDMI output, a VGA port, 6 USB ports, an SD card slot as well as audio jacks.

The Revo 70 has a list price of $329.99 on Acer’s retaill site. However, most of the retailers that have the computer in stock right now are charging no more than to $380. Despite its high price tag, this awesome nettop might lower its cost soon.

Fresh reports emerging from Google exposed by Ad Age plunges into the last category. Going with Google’s numbers, consumers are increasingly beginning to embrace mobile internet-capable devices other than laptop or PC in the five major markets (that is, US, UK, France, Germany, and Japan). US figures shows nearly 10 percent more, others 76 percent against 68 percent. These stats were taken between September and October of 2o11, which implies any impact on Christmas season could have not been taken into consideration.

Tablets are also seen gaining fair share, hanging around 10 percent in each market away from the U.S. and a little higher (17 percent). The new released Kindles and firm iPad sales helped drive that. Regardless of how you connect nowadays, any savvy netizen agrees: its not quantity but quality that counts.

It allows these nettops to use passive cooling. Meaning, there will be no fans and much quieter computing environment. These desktops are equivalent of netbooks, so curb your enthusiasm when it comes to high performance systems. At least, these nettops serve well on your basic needs but are very energy efficient.

Two of the models will feature integrated GM3650 graphics solution. This would be enough to handle HD video playback. There’s a model that has AMD Radeon HD 6430M for those who want heavier load in graphics department and some 3D gaming.

The Shuttle PCs are good solution if you are looking for low-power media center PC to stick next to your HDTV. Both of the models feature HDMI and D-Sub output.

If you are in the market for a small form factor desktop PC with an Atom processor, you are in luck here. JetWay’s new nettop, the JNF9C-2600 motherboard with Cedar Trail processor is now available. You can pick it up in Newegg for a price of $160.

The motherboard is armed with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N2600 dual core processor. It’s a 32nm, 3.5 watt chip with 400 MHz PowerVR SGX 545 graphics. The entire motherboard measures about 6.7″ x 6.7″. This can fit into a small computer case for nettop or home theater builds.

The board offers HDMI output, 3 USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit LAN, PCI card slot as well as mini PCIe card slot. It also supports up to 2GB of DDR3 800 MHz RAM and support for SATA 3.0Gb/s or SATA 6.0 Gb/s storage devices.

This is one of the very first systems that is bundled with an Intel Atom Cedar Trail processor. However, you will have to bring your own case, storage, memory and OS so that you can have it as fully functional computer.

Acer has just started selling its latest nettop based on AMD’s high-end Brazos APU for $329.99, or 251 EUR. The new Revo RL70 bears a strong resemblance to the rest of the company’s nettops, but this time it received a somewhat more refined design that won’t make it feel out of place in the leaving room, near your HDTV.

The Revo RL70 runs on AMD E-450 accelerated processing unit, which sports dual Bobcat x86 processing cores clocked at 1.65GHz. Its graphics capabilities, on the other hand, is driven by Radeon HD 6320, featuring some impressive multimedia capabilities. It also comes with a 500GB hard drive, together with 2GB of DDR3 system memory.

Despite its small size, the Acer nettop comes with a range of ports and connectors, including audio jacks, four rear USB 2.0 ports, two frontal USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, as well as VGA and HDMI video outputs. A multi-format card reader, WiFi connectivity and an S/PDIF audio output is also included to the specs list.

If these specs are to good for home use, the E-450 powered Revo RL70 is now available on Amazon for $329.99 (251 EUR). The Acer Revo RL70 system also comes with a keyboard and mouse, so everything you need is included inside the box.

After its introduction of the Edge HD nettop six months ago, Sapphire has unveiled a new version of the mini-PC that runs on a more powerful AMD accelerated processing unit. The present EDGE HD2 nettop is operated by a dual-core Intel Atom D525 processor which runs at 1.8GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM, 250GB hard drive and Nvidia second-generation ION graphics.

The new Edge HD model was presented at the CES fair last week and it carries pretty much the same chassis as its Intel counterpart, only this time it is reported to draw its power from an E-450 APU, which is the fastest Brazos chip available so far. It also sports dual Bobcat x86 processing cores clocked at 1.65GHz as well as Radeon HD 6320 integrated graphics with impressive multimedia capabilities. The said processor is paired with 4GB of DDR3 system memory and a 320GB hard disk drive.

For the connectivity, the system features two USB 2.0 ports, an mic and audio jacks, an Ethernet port, VGA and HDMI video outputs as well as USB 3.0 ports. Built-in WiFi is also included, while the power consumption of the Sapphire nettop is estimated at a low 30 Watts.

The E-450 powered Edge HD model is expected be available in February, this year with a base price of $300.

With Intel’s launch of the Atom Cedar Trail platform, many hardware manufacturers, such as ASUS, became inspired in making computers based on these chips. This includes the Eee Box EB1031 nettop.

Unlike its predecessors, Asus’ latest nettop has gained a matte case that does a far better job at keeping fingerprints away, while sporting a thinner profile. Despite its small size, the Eee Box EB1031 comes with a wide variety of ports and connectors including audio jacks, four frontal USB 2.0 ports, a pair of USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, as well as VGA and HDMI video outputs.

Under the hood is Intel’s recently released Atom D2800 processor that is based on the Cedarviewdesign. It features two processing cores with Hyper-Threading support, for a total of four computing threads, packs 1MB of Level 2 cache memory and comes clocked at 2.13GHz. This chip also sports an integrated 1066MHz memory controller as well as a 640MHz on-die GMA 3650 GPU based on a PowerVR core.

The rest of the system includes 4GB of DDR3 memory, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, a multi-format card reader, as well as a 500GB hard drive (but can take any other 2.5-inch drive, HDD, SSD, or hybrid).

The Asus Eee Box EB1031 will be available in March, this year, while pricing hasn’t been discussed.

Samsung is now promoting their upcoming Chromebox. It’s a tuny desktop computer designed to run Chrome OS–a web based operating system based on Google Chrome.

The nettop measures 7.6″ x 7.6″ x 1.3″ and has a rear panel that’s includes lots of connectivities like USB ports as well as Ethernet and video ports. The Chromebox will start shipping in the second quarter of 2012 for $399.

This kind of computer is bes suited in education, business, public kiosk and other areas where several users need to use the same computer. The Chrome OS is a cloud-based, web-based app operating system.

The Chromebox is armed with a very fast SSD so that users can boot the computer right away. Samsung estimates that Chromebox would power up in about 10 seconds.

Samsung is also updating their Series 5 Chromebook.

The new model is thinner than the original. It has design that reminds a lot of people with the Asus Eee PC Flare netbooks with its palm rest raised well above the keyboard.

However, the new Chromebooks are now upgraded to carry a dual core Celeron chip.

Samsung will begin selling this new Chromebook starting at $400 soon.
