Laptopmag took the Nokia Booklet 3G for a spin and found that although the said netbook looks great from the top to the bottom, it’s performance doesn’t live up to its great design.

The Nokia Booklet 3G boast of a MacBook-like design with an aluminum-covered body.  The only problem that you’d probably find with the netbook’s design is its cheap plastic keyboard. Other than this, the netbook will surely please users who are looking for a great looking netbook.

Laptopmag’s final verdict? While there might be some issues with the performance of the Nokia Booklet 3G, the bottomline is that the netbook’s design and form factor might win you over plus the fact that it is 3G-enabled and can give out 8 hours of battery life.

But then again, you must also consider that there are other netbooks available with equal if not better specs than the Nokia Booklet 3G which is currently sold at $299.

Check out Laptopmag’s full review of the Nokia Booklet 3G here.

While it isn’t available to purchase yet from Best Buy, over at Engadget they’ve got photos of the netbook being unboxed and shown with Windows 7. The netbook comes with the starter edition of Windows 7, which as Engadget note, only includes one wallpaper, the one shown but, I’m sure many will use their own photos anyway, or find other Windows 7 wallpapers from other sources. This is the first demo unit to arrive at Best Buy. You can view the photos of the unboxing after the jump.

Alright folks, it seems that we might be seeing reviews, hands-on, unboxing goodness and all those stuff as early as first week of November, as Nokia Germany is announcing that the Nokia Booklet 3G will be out by October 22. Unfortunately the said date is applicable only for O2 customers in Germany.

O2 will be making the Nokia Booklet 3G available for an upfront price of €249 and €20 monthly service fee that could last up to 24 months. O2 will also be offering an optional flat rate data tariff of €50 per month. So, just do the month and you would have an idea of how much you would be spending for this netbook baby.

In case you’ve missed earlier coverage, the Nokia Booklet 3G boasts of some standard netbook features such as WiFi, 3G, HSPA, Bluetooth and GPS. What’s more it will also give around 12 hours of battery life and will be running Windows 7.

In the meantime folks, here’s a short interview with the folks who are working on the Nokia Booklet 3G.

Yesterday we reported that Best Buy will be the exclusive retailer to the Nokia Booklet 3G in the US. However no price was known for the netbook, or when it will be available but, rumours are pointing towards the 22nd of October. However a tipster sent in an inventory shot to Phone Arena which shows the price and release date. The inventory shot shows the netbook as being available from 25th of September but it will come with Windows 7 when released, pushing it back to probably the 22nd of October. The price is also listed as $599.99, making it $200 cheaper than it is in Europe, which was to be expected.

While the Nokia Booklet may have already been released in Europe, it hasn’t set foot on American soil just yet and with the latest news it may not be seen in many homes across America. Nokia has previously had trouble getting their handsets subsidized in the US, so getting the netbook booklet subsidized seemed a little hopeful. It appears this may be the case as Best Buy will be the exclusive sellers of the Nokia Booklet 3G. Alternatively, Nokia will also be selling the Booklet online if you’d prefer not to deal with Best Buy, or want to deal with the company directly. No price has been confirmed or release date but, rumor is that it’ll arrive around the 22nd of October.

Ok, I know that the 3G Booklet is pretty exciting machine to have except for the fact that I’m  not really convinced about its price and this is the only reason why I won’t get it. But if you’re not like me and you don’t mind the price, you would be glad to know that Nokia has started accepting pre-orders for the 3G Booklet. Well, in Italy (update: the link to the Nokia Italy seems to be not working right now) at least.

And as you can see from the attached photo, indeed the Nokia 3G Booklet is expensive.  699 Euro for a machine with the usual netbook features with embedded sim slot? You got to be kidding me, that’s around $1,000?

nokia 3G booklet

The Nokia Blog is running a hands-on and first impressions post for the Nokia 3G Booklet. And like what I’ve observed just by looking at the official photos, the 3G Booklet does indeed looks a lot like the MacBook Pro. In terms of battery and keyboard feel, one could easily mistaken the Nokia 3G Booklet as  a 10-inch version of the MacBook Pro.Unfortunately it is not and it will never be.  And boy how I wish it’s got the white apple logo on its back.

The Nokia Blog post also mentioned about the nice feel of the 3G Booklet’s keyboard as well as the extent  by which you can tilt the netbook’s display backwards.

So, what do you think? Is the price of the Nokia 3G Booklet  is worthy of the 12-hour battery life and almost a-Mac look and feel?

No release date yet for the 3G Booklet, but pricing was confimed to be somewhere around 570 Euros.
