The Nokia Booklet 3G is one of the most expensive netbooks we’ve seen to date, so it’s probably come as no surprise that a knock off version is in the works. The design looks pretty much the same as the original Nokia Booklet but, the specs differ slightly. As it’s still being worked on, not all the specs are known as of yet. The 3G aspect of the booklet clone is currently unknown, so we’ll have to wait to hear on whether it will include a 3G connection option. Another spec which is unknown at the moment, is whether it has a HDMI output or not. MicGadget reports it as “maybe” having HDMI.

What we do know however, is that it will feature a 10.1 inch display, 1024×600 pixel resolution, 1GB RAM and a 160GB hard drive. It will also come equipped with the Intel Atom N450 CPU. The battery is also non removable, which depending on what the battery life is like, could be a big let down. Pricing isn’t known as of yet but, it’s expected to cost no more than 2,000 Yaun ($295).

Good news for early adopters of the MeeGo software platform. If you’re already running the MeeGo OS on your netbook and would like to see some improvement or are still looking into it, MeeGo version 1.01 has just been released and from the reports about its performance so far, it seems like worth the update. Reportedly, this first update to the MeeGo OS for netbooks brings over 100 bug fixes, performance improvements across the board, added visual improvements, and an “Enhanced netbook window manager”. And while there are good things about the update, there are also a few niggles. Read on to find out more about them.
MeeGo has just come out of the factory and is ready to install in your netbook. It’s also available for handhelds though it’s for the Nokia N900 and not regular phone kind.

Intel and Nokia joined forces to develop this new operating system that will run not only on portables but also on certain phones. One of its distinct features is that you need to only make one app for both desktop and mobile computers, so that faster development and wider reach – a double win for devs everywhere.

If you’re raring to try this system out, grab a copy here. I’m sure a few early adopting folks will have a review of this pretty soon as well.

At the MWC, Nokia have announced that they will be merging to create a Linux based operating system that will work on netbooks, tablets and mobile devices. Currently Intel provide the Moblin Linux interface found on netbooks, while Nokia have Maemo on mobile devices.

Not much is known about MeeGo at the moment but, we should start seeing it around the second quarter of 2010. We do however know, that devices running the MeeGo OS, will be able to access and run apps from both the Intel AppUp Center and the Nokia Ovi Store.

A little later than expected but, the Nokia Booklet 3G is now available within the UK. Unfortunately the pre-order price of £649 is correct and the booklet will be retailing for this. Specs of the Nokia Booklet 3G include a 10.1 inch display, Windows 7 Starter, 1GB of RAM, 120GB hard drive and 3G connectivity of course. The battery lasts for up to 12 hours. What makes this netbook/booklet more expensive than the rest, is the ability to display video in 720p.

Shipping is free on the item if you choose the standard delivery (3-5 days) but, if you want it quicker it’s an extra £10 on top for the express service (1-3 days).

For our readers based in the UK, here’s your chance to be the first to get the Nokia Booklet 3G. If you don’t mind spending £649 for this Windows 7-powered netbook you might want to pre-order it now from Nokia UK site. Should you do make your order, expect your Nokia Booklet 3G to start shipping in January.

What’s good about this though is that the Booklet 3G which Nokia UK is offering will not be tied up with any network operator contract. So, it’s up to you to find a 3G mobile plan so as to maximize the netbook’s 3G capability.

As a reminder, for that expensive price you’ll get a 10.1-inch netbook powered by a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 120GB HDD, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 2.1 and a 12-hour battery life.

Still interested place your order now at Nokia site.

Yes folks, you read it right. That Nokia Booklet 3G which was previously available for $299 has just received a price markdown and is now available for $199 at Best Buy. But of course since this is supposed to be a 3G-capable netbook it should always come with a mobile data plan. And we all know that this was already snagged by AT&T.

So the Best Buy offer which we heard is ongoing only during the Holiday Season will still require you to enter into an AT&T service contract. The Nokia Booklet 3G will be available at all Best Buy locations starting on Dec. 13.

Although it will still tie you up with a data plan from AT&T, the $100 discount is still a good deal especially if you so long wanted to have this Nokia netbook.

As a review, the Nokia Booklet 3G runs Windows 7, loaded with Intel Atom N280 CPU, comes with HDMI port for HD video, webcam, 10.1-inch HD-ready display, integrated A-GPS with OVI Maps and the latest version of OVI Suite.

Laptopmag took the Nokia Booklet 3G for a spin and found that although the said netbook looks great from the top to the bottom, it’s performance doesn’t live up to its great design.

The Nokia Booklet 3G boast of a MacBook-like design with an aluminum-covered body. The only problem that you’d probably find with the netbook’s design is its cheap plastic keyboard. Other than this, the netbook will surely please users who are looking for a great looking netbook.

Laptopmag’s final verdict? While there might be some issues with the performance of the Nokia Booklet 3G, the bottomline is that the netbook’s design and form factor might win you over plus the fact that it is 3G-enabled and can give out 8 hours of battery life.

But then again, you must also consider that there are other netbooks available with equal if not better specs than the Nokia Booklet 3G which is currently sold at $299.

Check out Laptopmag’s full review of the Nokia Booklet 3G here.
