Sony seeing strong demand for touchscreen e-book reader

Without too much noise, Sony has upgraded its Sony VAIO P netbooks to make in tune with the requirements of Windows 7. To make it worthy of the new OS, Sony has also bumped the VAIO P’s specs.

So now you can get this ultraportable machine equipped with a 2 GHz Atom CPU, 256 GB SSD plus a champagne-colored shell. This puts the U.S. version of the Sony VAIO P at par with its Japanese counterpart.

The new models will start arriving Verizon shops sometime in November. It will set you back for around $1,900, if in case you’re keen to get one.

Sony Refeshes the VAIO P and Load it with Windows 7

The W12S1E features pretty much the same specs as the previous model with a couple of changes. The new model will run Windows 7 Starter instead of Windows XP but, the main change and probably the reason for the new model number, is the hard drive size. The W12S1E will feature a 250GB HDD instead of 160GB. The extra hard drive space and newer operating system will cost you an extra £70 though. The netbook is available to pre-order for £399 in white, tan and pink. Release date is November 10th.

Sony offer up new VAIO W model

Looks like a mobile carrier has finally decided to take the expensive Sony Vaio P netbook. Words on the streets say that Verizon might actually offer the Sony Vaio P under its mobile data plan. If you would recall, Verizon currently has three netbooks under its fold – the Gateway LT2016U, HP Mini 311 and Mini 110.

If this rumor is true, the Sony Vaio P will actually be the smallest netbook under Verizon’s line-up.

What is not clear from though is whether the Sony Vaio P which Verizon will offer will be running Windows 7 since the rumored hard drive will be around 160GB. But the Sony Vaio P doesn’t have that capacity though.

The Sony Vaio P will be offered by Verizon for around $300 plus a two-year service agreement minus $100 rebate.

Scheduled shipping date will be on November 5.

Sony Vaio W11S1E removed from PC World

We all know how expensive the Sony Vaio X is. But this won’t stop us from covering it if only because we got to admit that the said machine is definitely something to drool for. If only Sony was kind enough to price it a little bit cheaper then I might consider buying it. But we can’t definitely blame Sony since the Vaio X’s cool and sleek design might suffer if they will bring down its price.

• front half of the Vaio X is taken by a thin and flat battery

• excellent color reproduction  of the 11.1 inch screen
• its 256GD SSD boost the 2.0GHz Z550 performance
• not really solid carbon fibre shell.

Sony Vaio X Reviewed, Pictured and Videod

So finally, after reporting to you about the new models of  the Sony Vaio P which surfaced in Germany, here’s another more official announcement, this time coming from Sony UK . Yes folks, its the 11.1-inch Sony VAIO X we told you about last week finally getting the official treatment.

There will be two iterations of the Sony Vaio X, one will be available at all Sony outlets and another one exclusive to Sony Style site. But generally these two Vaio Ps will have the following specs:

• 11.1-inch widescreen X-black LCD
• Aluminum/carbon fibre design
• High-Speed Mobile Broadband with Everywair Wireless WAN
• 655g and 13.9 mm slim
• multi-finger touchpad the supports scroll, flick, pinch and zoom fingertip gestures
• 2x USB ports
• Gigabit Ethernet
• VGA ports
• Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
• Motion Eye camera

And for some more technical specs:

• Intel Atom Z540 1.8GHz/Z550 2Ghz
• Windows 7
• 2GB of RAM
• 128GB SSD Flash Drive
• Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelarator 500

Best of all the Sony Vaio X will boast of 16 hours of battery life. It will be available on October 22. Price tag is a whooping $1,299.

Sony Vaio X Officially Announced

While we all await for the release of Sony’s highly anticipated Sony Vaio X machine, the Sony UK site is currently displaying three new configurations of Sony’s first ultraportable machine – the Sony Vaio P. Nothing much has been done with regards to the form factor of these Sony Vaio Ps. But Sony decided instead to up the ante when it comes to the machines’ computing power.

So, at the low-end we have a Sony Vaio P sporting a 1.86GHz Atom Processor while at the highest end is a Sony Vaio P with 2.0 GHz Atom Z550. Obviously these Sony Vaio P’s are being prepped up in time for the release of Windows 7. Sony obviously doesn’t want to be left behind in the Windows 7 frenzy.

No words on pricing yet.

Sony UK Site Shows Off 3 New Vaio P Units

It seems like Sony’s new Vaio machine, the Sony VAIO X might have a touch-screen feature. But still it’s not going to be in tablet form but could be another netbook unit.

Although it’s still a rumor, the Sony VAIO X is a direct follow-up to the VAIO TT and it will use a low-voltage Core 2 Duo Processor. This is obviously to support longer battery life.

Other rumored features of the Sony VAIO X include 3G, 11.1-inch display and Windows 7.

The Sony VAIO X might hit stores sometime in November. Stay tune for more details soon.

Sony VAIO X Will be Touch-Enabled but Not a Tablet Netbook

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Sony are releasing their netbook, the Sony Vaio W in a two tone pink to raise money for the cause. The netbook will come with a matching carry case and mouse. The netbook will be available to purchase until the end of this month. Sony are also releasing their eReader in pink for the cause. The company will donate $110,000 of profits into the cause. The Vaio W is already available in pink but, if you haven’t picked one up yet, now is the time to pick one up, as not only will you get a brand new shiny netbook but, you’ll also be supporting the cause.
