Lenovo is flying the heights as it had unveiled three of its new Android slates ready for everyone’s satisfaction and enjoyment; all are parts and particles of its Ideatab series. Recent updates show their specifications, aesthetic design and price tag. Specification wise, analysts and bloggers have it that nothing much than usual should be expected as they are midrange at best. To named them we have: Ideatab A1000, Ideatab A3000 and the Lenovo S6000.

The IdeaTab A1000 is a 7-inch slate with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, a MediaTek MTK 8317 processor (dual core) at 1 GHz and 16 GB of storage. Also, it has 1 GB of RAM, Android 4.2 as the OS and a microSD card slot, plus the usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and a front 0.3 megapixel camera. The device is measuring 10.7 mm in thickness, weighs 340 grams and it has a 3500 mAh battery.

On the other hand, the IdeaTab A3000 comes with a 7-inch IPS screen with 1024 x 600 pixel res, a MediaTek quad core 1.2 GHz procesor and a 5 megapixel cam at the back. Tablets are getting more and more acquainted with the specialized term “specifics”. As of the moment, innovations on tablets are getting out of their generic category and going into more specifications, to wit: for gaming, for music, for education, etc.

Recently, New Corp, the one running the Fox News, is getting more educational as it targets the academic market. Said company is now with an “education division” called the Amplify. As the New York Times says, the company is planning to introduce a tablet for students called the Amplify Tablet.

The Amplify Tablet will be a 10-inch tablet running Google Android with a custom user interface and educational software. It features an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, an 8.5hour battery, an IPS display, and a 5MP camera. Pursuant to the specification sheet, it’s “similar to the Asus Transformer Pad TF300TL), and even features a dock port on the bottom and the tablet can work with optional keyboards, external batteries, and other accessories.

News Corp’s tablet is intended for use in the classroom as well as at home, although the company is aiming schools, not parents. While students will be able to play educational games as well as doing homework, the focus is also on in-class quizzes and other software that teachers can use as part of the curriculum.

If remembered correctly, Archos G9 series of tablets first hit the streets in 2011. As of today, said series is still available for purchase from the Archos store. Archos G9 series sports TI OMAP 4 processors, the Google Play Store, and a few other features that help set them apart from the company’s earlier tablets.

Initially, Archos shipped 8-inch and 10-inch G9 tablets with Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Later on, it upgraded the tablets to support Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. However, looking at it now, it is like it will be the end of the line.

By way of a Facebook comment, an Archos representative puts it that: “after many months of analysis and testing, the company has decided not to release an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.”

Representing a change of heart, “the company had earlier said it would offer a new software update for these tablets.” This is as per ArcTablet report.

Archos is pointing out its issuance of 15 firmware updates for the Archos 80 G9 and Archos 101 G9 tablets over the past few years which have added new features and fixed bugs as among other things.

As some analyst would have it, Archos is quite focused on newer devices rather than innovating for a Jelly Bean upgrade for its older devices.
