Chrome OS will have different form factors, depending on the screen
Google is really revving up their new Chrome OS with this new page over at dev.chromium.org. It details that not only will the new OS run on a tablet, it will also be available for every other device. What’s more is that it would adapt its interface to that device, making browsing as pleasant as possible.
This has been one of my irks when using Windows and Mac OS X. While both are superb operating systems, tweaking the user experience to match the screen I’m using can be quite cumbersome. You’ll have to adjust font sizes, windows and other UI elements whether you are using an LCD TV, desktop monitor or laptop for the best results.
With Chrome OS, it looks like the software will do it for you so that couch surfing on your new 40″ LED TV would be as comfortable as browsing on your laptop, without having to tinker with your settings. Here’s the excerpt for netbook screens:
Netbook 10-12″Because of their small screen resolution, the netbook ui is tailored to one web page on the screen at a time. Interaction is primarily via mouse and keyboard, and the UI is adapted to this, with primary targets distributed along the screen edges. Panels would dock against the bottom of the screen and could be moved to the sides as well.
- Full Screen, Compact/Classic/Sidebar UI
- Omnibox may autohide on devices with limited vertical height
- Docking panels
