Citrix gives IT support techs a leg up, puts Windows in the iPad

Well, strictly speaking, Windows is not really the OS that will be running those iPads. Citrix though will be releasing a new virtualization client that will enable users to control a Windows 7 installation right from their iPad. They already have a version of this for the iPhone and having one for the iPad will be much more comfortable to use, in my opinion.

There are already a slew of VNC software in the Appstore that enables control of a remote desktop but this one will be hosted in a secure data center. Personally, an iPad is much easier to carry around than a notebook and will be much quicker to pull out than a netbook. It will also let IT guys show off their new gadget while getting some actual work done.

Or… just show how badly Windows works on a tablet.

Putting windows in the iPad is a great idea, just one problem though…as the ipad is not that powerful, and being just like an iPhone, do you not think that there will be some major performace issues?

For example, when you use the “log me in” client for the iPhone, you tend to get really bad performace issues with any lengthy amount of time spent using the device. the reason the iPad and iPhone run so great as they are is because they have a light weight OS on them.

Well, the processor is now 1GHz so it should give a leg up. Also, the server will do most of the heavy lifting and the performance lag is mostly due to internet connection problems. I’d say connections over a local network will solve this and will be the likely scenario when used by IT professionals.
