After some official specs of the Dell E came out not so long ago, nothing has been heard about Dell’s own entry into the netbook/low-cost PC market, until now. Digitimes is reporting on Dell’s plan of releasing a low-cost notebook which will be manufactured by Compal Electronics, sometime in August.
Of course, we don’t have to guess what this netbook is, unless Dell has changed its mind and decided to come up with another laptop product different from what we’ve heard before.
But the Digitimes report also mentioned about the price of this so called Dell low-cost notebook, which is $299. This clearly points to the rumored price of the “Dell E” netbook.
The report didn’t mention any new specs or details about the Dell E but it was said Dell is planning on releasing 2-3 million units of this netbook.
With the successive releases of the Eee PC 901, MSI Wind and Acer Aspire One, Dell should better hurry up to get a piece of the pie. If it wants to have a good market in the netbook market, the better time to release the Dell is NOW.

I need it before August 10th
It’s either this one or HP’s Mini-note for me. :D
Can you give a date for it to come available?
i wonder if this will be released in the whole world at the same time or just US :|
Most probably will be released before Eee PC 901 Linux does. >_>.
$299 is a *perfect* price.
Anyone know if this translates into 299 Euro or…?
I’ll be holding off for Dell anyway.
I haven’t had any problems with Dell PCs/ laptops to date, seem solid & reliable.
I just hope the Atom supply doesn’t limit the Dell supply much so badly.
I also hope there aren’t any major delays for any other reason with actually shipping the thing (I was waiting over a month after ordering to finally get an Inpiron 1525 delivered there a while back :(, fingers crossed that this will go more smoothly!

Its pretty simple, if its not out by the time school starts, my daughter will get an Acer One.
If they release before the start of school, then it will be the Dell E mini.
She saw the Dell E specs on these dozen photos and wants the Video+ which I presume will be the same price as the Acer One her cousin received ($370Canadian)

We are already the 4th of August and no announcement yet which makes me think that this will NOT be on sale by the time school starts.
Timing is everything.
If Dell doesn announce anything this week, we’ll know that they dont undestand the concept.
I hope that they continue their Ubuntu partnership and use the Ubuntu Netbook Remix made specially for these kinds of machines.
But the Linpus Lite that runs on the Acer One is fine and easy to use too.
C’mon Dell, THIS is the time to get the young crowd (and their folks who pay)
Dadio, go to http://www.xe.net for conversion of funds.
