Dell Inspiron 910 now coming in September

The Dell Inspiron 910, aka Dell Inspiron Mini, was set to be released today, but EeePCNews.De has reported that Dell have told them that the netbook won’t be available until September.

Dell have also reported that the Inspiron 910 will run a varient of Ubuntu Netbook Remix which will allow an ‘easy mode’ which will work by using a horizontal bar, producing simple navigation for users.

    My understanding is that Dell never planned to release the laptop today. But for some reason the blogosphere has been buzzing with the rumor of an August 22nd release since the last time Dell didn’t launch the laptop a week or two ago.

    This is stupid. They have this laptop ready to launch and still not available. Lenovo released s10 quickly and now it can be ordered and Dell. How they want to make money? I’m not going to wait till September, a lot of people will also buy something else.

    Couldn’t agree more with Anon’s comment, what difference can a month make? People are heading to school now and there are so many options out in the market already.

    Lenovo S10 seems awesome with its sleek look, but I want a sub-notebook with SSD no matter how small the storage is, for me personally, SSD is a MUST in sub-notebook, I carried my Asus A8 laptop most school days last year and it died, fortunately it was 3 weeks before the warranty expire, so they have to repair for free. Now, the only ultraportable subnotebook really makes sense to me is the one with SSD. Which is a shame to see MSI and S10 to offer no such option, which I think is quite foolish IMO.

    What can be Dell’s motivation to not say a word about all the inaccurate release dates. So far the rumor mill has produced 3 different release dates that all proved to be wrong. This doesn’t benefit Dell & I would think to eliminate all this they’d publish an expected “release to market” date & maybe even offer some sort of pre-order / reserve ability on their website.

    Exactly, Lancelot and others. I’ve been asking,_BEGGING_Dell to release more info about the Inspiron 910 (or whatever it is that it’s going to be called), but they won’t say anything. Their lips are sealed shut.

    This could mean 3 things, IMO: Either something has gone terribly wrong with the design/manufacturing of the device, perhaps they’re waiting for the back to school season to end and for the christmas season to begin (which doesn’t make much sense, but whatever) or maybe they don’t want their rivals to know what they have hiding under their sleeves until the very last minute (there might be a surprise component or something in the netbook).

    Whatever it is, they better announce it soon because many people can’t wait any longer, myself included. The Asus Eee PC 901 is looking better and better every minute.

    I suspect that all the buzz for a 22 Aug launch has served Dell well in that two of the competitors tipped their hat as to their response – the Acer Aspire now with very attractive pricing for their two configurations and Lenovo doing a 15% off special and free shipping on the S10. A win for the Dell marketing guys. Now then have even better data to position the final release of the product.

    I must admit, if it were available I’d jump at the 10″ S10 at $365.

    What is important is battery lifetime… I have yet to see anything that matches the OLPC XO (with the screen tech of the XO from Pixel Qi’s Mary Lou J. it has a screen that is viewable in direct sunlight). I can’t figure out why some company just has not taken the OLPC XO and expanded the RAM size, the SSD size made it a bit smaller, WITH TOUCH SCREEN and no stupid touch pad, and just sold that (including using the $10.00 replacement battery… as many of us look at a device, look at the numbers that might be sold, and imagine that the battery might not be available in the future…so, any company that wanted to keep changing devices, and standardized on the OLPC XO battery tech, would find that a huge number of us would love the device (and could bet on using it even is the manufacturer decided someday to stop building and selling batteries for it).?

    Sorry to hear that Dell won’t be able to release the model now in August. Too bad school has already started for me and I need a laptop now. Can’t wait any longer. I think Dell has lost many potential consumers because of this not being able to meet the deadline for back to school

    I was really longing for Dell E for some reasons, but after I have do a size comparison with my 14″ Asus laptop, the only workable, portable, and effective size is 10″ like the Asus Eee PC 1000/h. The size of sreen and keyboard for 900 is way too small and that will overshadow its portability. Whereas, 1000 seems to be able to keep the size relatively small and portable, while having a decent size screen and keyboard, though I think it’s can still manage to put a larger screen (ie: 11 in) on the Eee 1000. I just abhor the big border around the actual screen for the lappie.

    Yes, the Lenovo is being sold but not shipped. In fact the web site had put a hold on orders just a few days ago. ETA for shipping is by Oct. 30th! I really think Intel is having a hard time producing enough Atom CPU’s or their has been a problem. Asus could have locked in so many of them too that is affecting supplies to others. I chose the Lenovo S10 over the available now Asus because of the larger screen size.
