There you have it, despite the absence of an official press release or announcement, Dell has made available its Inspiron Mini 9 netbook on its online store. Those who been waiting for this netbook can now start ordering for their units.
Just like we reported, the most basic model of the Inspiron Mini 9 will have an introductory price of $349. This version of the Inspiron Mini will have the Atom processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB SSD, Ubuntu Linux OS, Wifi, 4-cell battery pack in a black colored chassis. If you want a white version, you would have to add $25. If you want additional SSD capacity, you will have to add $35 for an 8GB SSD, or $75 for a 16GB SSD.
The Windows XP-powered Dell Inspiron Mini 9 will set you back a little bit more, $449 to be exact. And this version would come with a 1GB RAM, 8GB SSD, Bluetooth and Webcam. For additional storage, you will have to add $40 for the 16GB SSD.
Honestly, with these official specs and features, do you feel excited about this netbook at all? Or are you contented with the Eee PC 901 or perhaps the ACER Aspire One? Bettery yet - how about the MSI Wind?

At £299 in the UK, my brain isn’t triggering an adrenaline release…
I think a 6 cell battery would have me ordering a Dell. Seeing as the option is for a four cell in the top model, I will be ordering a 901 this morning to replace my 701. The eee has served me well, I am sure the 901 will continue to be good.
There is a post of interest on Dells Digital Nomad site that says tomorrow you will be able to add a Mini to the purchase of another laptop for 99 dollar.
For the top spec 1GB memory, 16GB HD, 2.1 Bluetooth, 1.3M webcam the Windows XP version is $479 and the Linux version $494. That makes Linux the up-market choice. Go for XP if you really can’t stretch to the Linux version.
Well, I waited & I waited now finally the wait is over…
& my fears have been fully realised.
Only one fixed model available online (here in Ireland) - the highest spec one with XP
Only black available
Only 4 cell battery
399 Euro price tag (100 more than I’m willing to spend considering Black + 4cell + only 16GB)
It *is* the prettiest of the bunch imho - but just not worth that price tag.
Oh well. Now I have a clear choice: Acer or Eee
What a joke, complete waste of hype in my opinion. After I customize what I want it brings the price up to $479, for the XP version 1 gig ram, bluetooth, 1.3 mp camera….and 16gig storage…really 16GB really! For an extra $20 I can get a wind with bigger screen and 80GB hard drive. Sort of a let down dell.
Motz: are you a moron or what? AN 80 GB, analog, slow, noisy, unreliable hard disk is NOT the same as a digital, fast, silent and reliable SSD. You pay more for better technology, it’s that simple. Why the hell would you want 80GB of storage on a netbook anyway? That’s why you have regular PC’s with terabytes of storage to jam up with porn.
