Still remember when we reported that Acer is coming up with a new netbook that will dual-boot Windows XP and Android? Digitimes is reporting that the said netbook would actually be debuting sometime in August.

Acer has already placed orders from Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics. But the thing is, we shouldn’t expect this netbook to come in cheap though since, Acer will still have to pay the licensing fees for Windows XP. It’s a good thing though that the Android OS is Open Source, so that lessens the mark-up for the said netbook.

No words yet on what steps both Asus and MSI are going to take regarding Acer’s plans. Likewise, this Acer netbook still remains to be named though despite having a release date already.

  1. The beauty is that you would have both. If you want/need to use Windows, you can. Otherwise, Android offers you the benefits of fast boot & runtime, super long battery life, touch-optimized UI, location-based services, cell phone calls, SMS/MMS, multi-media playback, and access to all the other cool apps in the Android Market.
