Dual-core Pine Trail chips coming? Maybe.

There’s no reason for dual-core CPUs not to exist in netbooks. Asus certainly proved that these are possible with their 1201 line of Eee PCs which uses a desktop Atom 330 chip. It doesn’t give a significant improvement in speed based on reviews of that device but Intel wants to change that.

The rumored dual core Atom processor that will be custom made for netbooks and similar devices would give a boost in power while keeping battery consumption low. Take all of this with a grain of salt though, it’s not confirmed yet. I don’t see how dual cores could benefit portables though since Intel already made the Atom pretty efficient already.
