We so envy the guys at TweakTown for having the money to spare and grab themselves a working unit of the new Eee PC 1000. Looking at their photos of the Eee PC 1000h, we could only blurt out - awesomely handsome! Yeah, the black Eee PC 1000h definitely looks sleek and classy.
TweakTown got the Eee PC 1000h that comes with an 80GB HD. And they put up a nice short unboxing video for all of us to drool over.

Wow, the looks of it reminds me a lot of my own Compaq Presario c765TU. :P
What’s the deal here?
This is like an overpriced and underpowered subnotebook: nothing to do with the 701 or 900 series…
I really don’t get the draw of these 10″ ones. It costs as much as a regular laptop and it is nearly as big. This one doesn’t have a shock-proof hard drive and it doesn’t have a custom OS. The battery life is pretty standard, too.
I think I’m headed for the Acer One or the Dell E. All I want is a 9″ screen with a decent resolution, a SSD (I don’t care how big, it’s just for documents and such), a good OS, and a really good battery life.
Dell’s E is essentially Asus’s 700 series with a bigger screen- exactly what I wanted. I could get two of them for the price of this thing.
The startup seems extremely slow. Kind of scares me, because I was looking forward to this one.
The 1000 is also coming in a model with a 40GB SSD Alan.
It’s all about the battery life for me. 7.5 hours max for a 1000 is something a normal laptop can’t give you.
What the hell is AY-ZOOS? It’s AY-SUSS you donkey.
The black Eee PC 1000 looks promising, but if I’d buy that one, I’d install Fedora on it and tweak it to my liking.
However, did any of you guys here at eeepc.net heard of the new Red Fox WizBook? I would definitely want to see an article of it here!
Wow, is this a message from the future? “It’s Friday, June 20th!” Pretty amazing!
Alan - Both the Dell and Acer units look promising. Hopefully , the SRP won’t shoot up when they became available
Berg - The bigger it gets, the slower it becomes? :-)
John - 7.5 max battery hours is definitely a winner
OJ - We featured Ref Fox way ahead of the other guys here -> http://eeepc.net/red-fox-wizbook800/
You mention the battery hours of over 7 hours, but maybe you need that time because this notebook is slow! Have to look at some benchmarks before I buy.
There are several steps you can take to help you get maximum performance from your laptop battery: Prevent Memory Effect - Keep the laptop battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks.
I have both Eee 1000H and Acer A1 150 (the xP w/120GB HD and 6-cell battery). I got the A1 first because it was cheaper, and does everything well, especially the battery life is awesome. If you want a machine that does all-day computing (emailing, typing, chat, some skype, turning on, then off, then repeat many times) without plugging in then A1 is the best machine.
The A1 quickly got taken by my college bound son, who wants just that (allday computing without plugging in). So I ot the 1000H, thinking it would give me the all-day computing but with slightly bigger (actually feels way bigger) screen and better keyboard layout. It was all that. But 1000H battery life so far has been a disappointent. I am getting maybe 4 hours instead of 6-7. As I check out different fourms I am changing a few settings, and hopefully can bring the battery life up to 6-7.
What’s the point of 1000H when it costs as much as a cheapie laptop? Because 1000H is so much more portable than a regular 14″+ laptops, and battery lasts much longer. If you just going to leave it on a desk, by all means go for a full size laptop. But if you need any mobility then these mini-notebooks are just great.
Just consider ourselves lucky how cheap these mini-notebooks are, now that Taiwanese companies are making them. Just look at how much SONY, TOSHIBA and all the Japanese want on them in the past ($ 3000+). And 12″ are still $1500+.
