Eee PC 1000HV Super Hybrid Engine HD Mode Explained

Netbook Italia managed to get a piece of the new Eee PC 1000HV which was recently released in Italy. For those who may not be aware, the Eee PC 1000HV is equipped with ATI Radeon HD 3450 video card which has its own 256MB memory.

Another peculiar characteristic of the Eee PC 1000HV is a High Definition Mode on its Super Hybrid Engine. HD Mode will ensure that the Eee PC 1000HV still utilizes power at its most efficient level while viewing High Definition videos decoded at H.264 format.

Netbook Italia explained the 1000HV’s Super Hybrid Engine settings:

  • High Performance, standard (max frequency of 1.6 GHz Atom N270 and Atom 1.66 Ghz for N280);
  • Super Performance, overclocking the processor (frequency up to 1.68 GHz Atom N270 and Atom 1.75 Ghz for N280);
  • Power Saving, downclock processor (frequency locked to a minimum, 600 MHz for Atom N270 and 750 MHz for Atom N280).

and of course an additional High Definition Mode which  will allow you to overclock the said Eee PC up to 8% faster than previous Super Mode. The 100HV can be overclock up to 1.8GHz when normal FSB clock frequency of the Eee PC 1000HV is only set at 1.6GHz by virtue of its Intel Atom N280 CPU.

While this may seem a pretty good way of increasing the speed of the Eee PC 1000HV. It is not without a problem. Of course there is and in this case an increase in body heat of the netbook which in this case was measured to 75 degrees in HD mode.

So, if you happen to get the Eee PC 1000HV once it reaches your local stores, you’re in luck because you get to have a decently faster netbook than most Eee PC models available in the market today. This means you can pretty much watch your favorite HD Videos in all its high definition quality.
