Frameless screens being developed in Taiwan, may mean bigger screen sizes
Digitimes revealed some very good news. Taiwan ODM manufacturers like Foxconn and Compal are collaborating with LCD makers such as Chimei and Chungwa to create frameless-screens for notebooks and possibly netbooks as well. Gorilla glass, known for their extraordinary toughness and is in Dell’s Adamo laptops and the Motorola Droid, is going to be used in these displays.
My guess is the bezels for these screens will be reduced considerably, if not removed entirely, which means more screen real estate in smaller portables. The Gorilla glass will protect the LCD and the frame which is the main purpose of the bezel in current notebooks.
Let’s cross our fingers and hope we can now get some nice 11″ screens on our 10″ netbooks soon.
