Gaming is Great on a Netbook

p1030031

Gizmag have done a little research on which games run perfectly well on a netbook – games that don’t need the resources to play them that netbooks generally don’t have.

The netbook they used to test the games out is the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 which should mean any Atom based netbook using the Intel GMA 950 graphics module will run the games with no problems also, allowing gamers like myself to enjoy some light gaming relief on our netbooks.

Obviously, you won’t be playing games like Crysis, which is hugely resource intensive, on your netbook but, there are some great titles that Gizmag have noted as working on their S10 including Beneath a Steel Sky which is a free classic adventure game, popular MMORPG Eve online and a handful of Steam titles. Of course their list isn’t exhaustive, there are many other games that a netbook can handle and if any of our readers know of any other working games and would like to add to the list we’d love to hear from you.

Beneath a Steel Sky is a great adventure game… I played it a lot on my Amiga, many years ago…

    Good old times :)

I have been able to run WoW off an external and with even better results when I bumped my mini9 up to 2gigs of ram and a 32Gb sata SSD. Granted it’s tiny, but runs pretty well all things considered. I did not install it out of desperation or even with the intent of using it, just purely to see if this little atom 1.6g could handle it, and surprisingly it did quite well. I’m thinking I’m going to load the Zork Anthology Collection as a way of losing many hours of my life all over again. Other titles I plan to load are:

    Tie Fighters
    Diable I&II
    Fallout
    Starcraft
    Baldur’s Gate
All should run perfectly fine from an external and be decent for the small screen.

I used to love Beneath a Steal Sky on my Amiga 600. (Them were the days!) Anyway, to the future… Currently on my netbook I have been playing Help! Aliens! (www.marjupi.com) which is a pretty cool 3D game. And the basic things like Tetris, Snakes etc.

    Counter strike!

Maybe you’ve got some tricks up your sleeve, but I couldn’t get Counter-Strike to run acceptably. I’ve got an AAO150 with XP and 1.5GB RAM, GMABooster on max, all unessential processes closed, Game Accelerator at max, running CS 1.6 in a window at all lowest graphics settings, and still got around 15 FPS average. Plenty of older games run fine though, I love Civ, Colonization, the Ultima games, and all my old SSI and Event Horizon point-and-click games. Go abandonware!

I love my new laptop. Not only can I play games and telecommute from dwelling, but I can also Free PS3 Games. With my work schedule it is frequently tough to watch shoes which are currently popular so I usually go back to my tried-and-true favorites. Frasier is a single of those. I don’t remember how I earliest learned that you simply can watch these exhibits online, but nevertheless I did I would like to say thank you. Watching Tv is 1 of my favorite ways to relax following a rough day from the ER and Frasier is continually beneficial for just a laugh. I need that more generally than I must.
