Gembird Debuts its New Print-to-eReader Technology

The Dutch company Gembird showcased a new eReader at the CES 2012 for readers who wish to cut down on costs from printing out documents. The new device is called the E-Ink eReader together with its docking station.

The E-Ink eReader, which measures 9.7 inches, on the surface appears like the other available eBook readers in the market. However, unlike other eBook readers where users may download content on to the device, this one has a different mechanism.

In a nutshell, the E-Ink eReader acts as substitute paper and ink for ordinary printouts. To use this, consumers need to cork it into computer via a USB plug. The computer would detect it as a USB printer. The user then prints out the document from the device, thereby using no ink and no paper.

Users also have the option of editing the content once they are printed out. If they wish to save the document with the edited parts, they may send back the document as a PDF file to the computer. It, however, is not meant to be a substitute for the functions of a regular tablet PC as it has limited options. A notable one is the absence of Wi-Fi connectivity. But it has, however, a touch screen.

This device costs around 500 Euros and it is set to be sold starting April this year.
